Thread: Albums everyone should listen to before they die.

Right, but I think the two albums I listed are very good. I know that you aren't exactly directing the statement towards me.

About the two albums I listed:

Gatsby's American Dream - Volcano

It's very difficult to classify the genre of Seattle-based Gatsby's American Dream. Their music is fairly diverse, even withing a single album. It's easy to dismiss the band since the vocals sound a little like Panic at the Disco and Fallout Boy, but believe me, Gatsby's American Dream is much more talented. The music is usually intricate and the lyrics are always interesting.

"To date, Volcano is Gatsbys' most significant album, and, as a concept album, the most thematically-focused. It revolves around the theme of humans emotions and their similarities to a volcano. Elaborating on this theme, the album explores the story of Pompeii, the ancient Roman city that was both lost to and preserved by a volcanic eruption." I really like this album for all the literary and pop culture references from Lord of the Flies to the video game Fable to Jurassic Park. Every time I listen to this album I discover something new, either lyrically or musically. Among punk and alternative music magazines, Volcano has received all positive reviews.

The Streets - A Grand Don't Come for Free

Mike Skinner, aka The Streets, is a British rapper.

"A Grand Don't Come for Free is a concept album. In the story, the protagonist loses £1000, or a grand in slang terms. In the first track on the album, "It Was Supposed to Be So Easy", he plans out a series of seemingly simple events for the day, including returning a rented DVD and taking out some money from a bank machine, but it all starts to go wrong when a passing car splashes him with water, then he discovers the DVD is not in the case and still at his house and when he comes home he cannot find the thousand pounds, and his television is broken." This is an album that must be listened to all the way through at least the first time. If you don't you might not think A Grand Don't Come for Free deserves to be listed. There are very few songs that could be considered singles or are that catchy, but that's because the album focuses mainly on the story. The album has been critically acclaimed, however it hasn't gotten the attention it deserves in the United State.
