    Brand new cartridge and needle, and the sound is of record. I have no clue as to how to deduce the problem

    BTW 100th post!!! and its about records.... or at least a turntable lol

    Ok well great it is a new cart and needle, however your turntable is still 30 years old. Perhaps the cart isn't connecting in well (spray some air duster to it?) or the wiring is bad. Did the table work before the new cart/needle?
