Default What audio player do you use?

I'm getting sick of using iTunes, especially now that I haven't had an iPod for the past two years. I think it's fucking retarded that FLAC, ogg, and wma files aren't supported. I tried Windows Media Player for maybe 15 minutes before becoming completely frustrated with it's user interface.

I just downloaded Songbird and currently am importing my library. I vaguely remember using Songbird like 4 years ago when I was running Ubuntu.

So what does everyone else use?

I use iTunes primarily, but I also use foobar whenever I want something simple that won't slow my computer down while I'm playing a Total War game or whatever.

Shitface, I'm sorry to inform you, but there's a reason no one uses Windows Media Player. I tried to add my library and it added some (but not all) albums multiple times. Also, the interface looks like shit. Like why da fuck is "album art" mandatory, even when it's just a single song from an album and I don't have the artwork?

So far I am very pleased with Songbird.

I used to really like Songbird and Rhythmbox when I used ubuntu. Now I generally use itunes because I listen to a lot of podcasts and it's perfect for that. Spotify is also getting used more and more, to the point I'm almost considering paying for the unlimited/premium account.

I switched from Winamp to MediaMonkey several years ago and haven't looked back. It has a bit of a learning curve but it's hands down the best player and media manager I've used to handle the small handful of music I have downloaded

I enjoyed media monkey until my collection got larger than 100GB, then it started to be a pain. But I switched to Linux shortly after that anyhow.

How did it get to be a pain, out of curiosity? MM is designed especially FOR large collections. I've got over 300GB in my library and it returns search results instantly (I used to have about 100GB in my Winamp playlist that took about 10 seconds to search for a track)

It managed to savage my ID3 tags somehow. I actually had more success with WMP at that point.

I've used jetAudio for years. But I don't use it as a media organiser. I just organise everything in its directory and use jA to play everything.

I haven't found an audio source that it wasn't able to natively play and I also use it to watch videos (it plays .mkvs well and even can natively play Real Media, but doesn't work so well with anything Apple); burn/rip CDs; convert audio types, say, from .flac to .mp3; trim audio files, like when there's a 5 minutes silence because of a 'secret' track and supposedly you can also use it to record audio with an equaliser to process it and things like low/high-pass filters, but I've never used that. It has a skinnable interface, but I control most things with hotkeys and have a playlist autohide to the left of the screen so I hardly ever see it.

If you decide to have a look at this one, I'd suggest 'buying' the paid version.

I'm gonna have a look at Media Monkey, it looks snazzy.

    iTunes.

Mac users don't have much of a choice. It's either that, Songbird (yuck), or fuckin' screw. That said, I don't have much of a problem with it.

Purposefully downloading a .flac and converting to .mp3 is like marrying Scarlett Johansson and then force-feeding her until she looks like Ashley Fink (go ahead and google her)

Yeah because .flac is always the most convenient format. And downloading things in two formats more so.

I hear that. But sending other people music doesn't work so well with flac. My phone also doesn't play flac. Although I could just download a flac player on my phone but I can't be bothered with that when a phone has low quality audio processing anyway.

Note I said purposefully. If you don't like the format, fine, get a V0 MP3 or something, but don't go downloading lossless formats if you are going to complain about ease of portability, heh
Flac on a phone is dumb anyway, not only are you listening through cheap headphones, the chipset isn't that good either in the phone. I'm no music snob audiophile but flac formats are useless for almost all people, and even then the untrained ear can't really tell a difference anyway between that and a high-bitrate MP3. You'd have to know what to listen for, and have a setup nice enough to be able to produce that difference. What is the point of a song going down to 10-20hz if your subwoofer only goes to 40.

I very rarely deliberately look for flac but it is quite often the case that good music which is hard to track down will be in lossless format.

What a great suggestion. I'm now using VLC to manage my music collection. Thanks new guy!
