Default So what kind of alcoholic beverages do you guys prefer?

This past year, me and my friends really started branching out and trying all kinds of different drinks, trying to find a replacement for beer and whiskey and coke.

We started with scotch, and different kinds of ways to drink it. Straight, on the rocks, club soda, etc...

After many nights of intoxication, I found my new drink of choice for the indefinite future.

Gin. Namely Bombay Sapphire. I prefer it with Club Soda and Lime, but will also drink it on the rocks with a lime wedge or two. Tanqueray is my backup Gin, but Ive never really HAD to get it since Sapphire is easy to find.

I picked up some Tanquery No. 10 last weekend, and just finished it off. It was a good bit more expensive than a 5th of Sapphire or regular Tanq, but its really good shit.

So what kind of spirits do you prefer?

Seeing as its the festive season, sloe gin over ice is my warmer of choice.

Port is always good, if a little old fashioned, but I'm a trend setter, y'know?

Before they ballsed it up over here, Sailor Jerry and coke was sex in a glass. We had a different recipe to the american version, but now theyre both the same recipe and it just tastes a bit generic. If you guys had tasted our original, you would understand the fuss.

Jameson and Ginger ale for a night in a pub with a fire.

but mainly beer. I like proper continental lagers, good real ale and anything a bit odd. my favourite beer of all time is BrewDogs Tokyo. amazing stuff, but not cheap.

Vodka is my drink. I can just put it with anything. An energy drink, soda, orange juice, milk, tomato juice, any fruity mix (cran, peach, pineapple), iced tea.

I've pretty much spent most of my drinking career on whiskey and rum and trying other drinks and shots here and there, but right now I'm really liking vodka. I might be drunk because in the trunk of my car I carry a to-go bag with extra clothes and toiletries as well as various bottles of alcohol and mixers.

When I'm just looking to idle with friends I'll try all the microbrews I can.

If you like Bombay Sapphire the only real way to drink it is mixed with high quality ginger ale (or stronger ginger beer [non-alcholic like root beer] if you can find it)

gin & ginger is a classic simple drink that kicks ass
you can make your own ginger ale at home too its really easy and you can make the strength of it to taste

I tried some sloe gin a while back, and it was disgusting. Tasted like cough syrup. And the stuffs only 15% alcohol compared to Sapphire which is 47%.

And as for beers, one of my buddys always has a keg of some beer he brewed at the house, so we always drink that. The last one he made was almost going to get scrapped because he ordered the wrong grains for it, and it only came out like 2% alcohol and didnt taste that great, but he put 6 lbs of honey in it, and it came out tasting great, and it bumped the alcohol content up to almost 10%. I drank 3 tall pilsler glasses of it was was buzzing my ass off. Then a few gin drinks and I was done.

Ginger beer tastes like ginger ale. as the name would imply... except it's usually spicier and more gingery. I love it.

I would say I'm an "eclectic drinker," but you would probably say I have no taste.

I have to say that in the past I didn't like whiskey, as it tasted like what I would imagine floor cleaner might taste like. But recently I had a variation on a Manhattan, and surprisingly I did appreciate its extreme bitterness. I still shy away from diluted horse-piss pale lager.

The mojito is not a girl's drink, goddamn it. It's rare to find a good one, however.

    Yeah I enjoy microbrews too.

I'd give anything for a selection of American Microbrews.

The UK brewing industry is dominated by weak, flat ale. There are good ones, but are usually pretty uniform.

I will give credits to anyone who sends me a selection

For tailgates, Bourbon and Diet (typically Makers, but I don't really turn down the whiskeys if it's Jack or Crown.)

For casual post-work, beer is fine.

If we're smoking cigars, I'll usually do Johnny Walker rocks. We just finished my decanter and refilled with one of the Glenlivets, so we'll see.

If I'm drinking heavily, for the morning after's sake, then I usually stick with Vodka Water... Depending on how nice of a bar, Goose and Fiji is preferable, though I'm not picky amongst Goose/Stoli/Ketel One. If I switch to vodka red bull, then I usually take Absolut or well.

Of course, depending on what kind of bar we're at, I might have a martini or a glass of wine. And if I don't want to be there, I'll usually order an Amstel.

So one perks of working in a bar is I can make any drink and try it out. Tonight I made some Sapphire and ginger ale. Didn't care for it. I also made a dry martini with some sapphire. Pretty nice I must say.

I love scotch on the rocks. I like to start every night off that way, then gravitate towards seasonal beers and microbrews.

speaking of festive ales, i tried a double chocolate stout with cranberry that was pretty flippin good

also a winter ale with hints of cloves and oranges. tasty and interesting, but i'd never drink more than half a bottle in a night.

I'd take Glenlivet over Johnny Walker. Even Johnny Walker Gold isn't as tasty as Glenlivet. Tastes too much like charred barrels.

Usually beer. Right now, it's a Magic Hat sampler pack; got some Abita and Covington Brewery stuff in the truck for Christmas Day. Back home, it's either something good in ones or twos like Sierra Nevada Torpedo or something cheap by the dozen or two like Coors, Miller, Bud, or even their cheaper cousins like Keystone.

At times it's Jack, Jim, or Evan with some Coke or Dr Pepper. Other times it's Bacardi or Seagrams 7 with the same mixer.

Good wine is not bad at times, or just some Boone's Farm for old time's sake (was drinking that with my dad at age six).

On occasion, some Herbsaint or absinthe straight from the bottle is good for the soul. Wish I could find some more Meyer's Bitter.

yeah when i was comparing it to root beer i meant that it is non-alcoholic even though its called "beer"
It's just like stronger ginger ale with more "bite" to it, it rules but is expensive and hard to find.

Dark & Stormy is a great drink, a dark rum like Goslings with some ginger beer or in a pinch Vernor's will work as it is kind of close

so i can throw it out the window

I like Magic Hat #9, Circus, Winter howl, yuengling, and stella artois. A lot of my friends enjoy coors, miller, etc, but i can't seem to enjoy them at all.

As for liquor i prefer: jager, grey goose, and jungle juice (it's like an alcoholic surprise).
