    Cool Project Fi

Any of you all use Google's new Project Fi cell service? I just signed my wife and I up, I hope it doesn't suck cause she will fucking kill me.
From all accounts I've read, it's pretty much the cheapest yet most awesome service around. There are a couple small cons but they are outweighed by many pluses. I ran the math on the data we use and we will end up saving a hundred bucks a year as well as getting nifty Nexus phones.

That actually sounds pretty legit. I just switched providers and might have considered that. Wish they had more phones though.

I've been thinking about it, but haven't bitten the bullet yet. If you have thoughts once you get it up and running I'd be interested to hear them.

I still have unlimited data through AT&T. and now with the FCC rulings, they supposedly can't throttle me anymore.

I got a project fi invite a few months back, but I Just couldn't bring myself to switch over to it

I have an unlimited plan with AT&T as well, apparently if I am ok with giving up my number too I can sell it on ebay for like $400+ but my wife was like NO I CAN'T MEMORIZE 9 NEW DIGITS so whatever, wasn't worth the argument and trouble to go through an account transfer.

They stopped throttling at 5GB a while back, the current limit is 22GB and then you are throttled.

My phone comes tomorrow which would have been great because tomorrow is also the last day of my billing cycle, but my wife didn't get a shipping notice yet so it will probably be like 25 days before we switch over because AT&T does not prorate the month for a termination, even though they prorate your first month when you sign up. I'm not going to miss them.

You can keep your number and port it between carriers, per federal law. I couldn't tell if you misread what I was saying or you did something similar, but I'd only have to give up my number if I sold my unlimited plan and then did a transfer of billing liability instead of closing my account via porting the number.

Yea, I know, it was just the way I had to do it. It would have been too much of a hassle and I would have been without a phone for a while. I was on a family plan under my step dads acct, and he passed away, so I started my own plan, but the fact that the old number wasn't technically under my name made it complicated.

Update: I am a master social engineer and got the Deathstar to give me a $100 credit for leaving them even though they don't prorate final bills by policy, so all is good there. I ported over our phones tonight and it was a very easy process, it said it takes 1-2 days but it took about literally 3 seconds for our new phones to become active. The wife's big complaint is that she hates the new emojis on Marshmallow android, I was like #firstworldproblems #dealwithit

So far so good, working as advertised. Shit makes and receives calls, texts, surfs, etc as you'd expect. The 6P is large but not XBOX huge, my case for it comes Friday so that will help make it fit a bit better in my hand, the naked phone is pretty slippery on the back. The fingerprint scanner works amazingly well, I haven't used that feature on other phones for comparison but it doesn't take much longer to unlock the phone than the regular click and swipe. Was gonna have to buy all new chargers for the USB-C (fits in either way, woo hoo) but the Fi box comes with a wall charger and cord as well as a USB A to USB C cord so you can use your old wall adapters but its a slower charge. They also still had stock in the "holiday gifts" so we each got a box of knock-off LEGO-like blocks (not bad for a knock off but obviously not real LEGO to my trained eye) and also in that box was another A-to-C converter cord, so we are good there. I'll keep an eye out over the next month or two for discounts on car chargers, not a huge rush for that cause my battery is fuckin' MASSIVE

oh also the camera is fucking amazing too, took a low light shot as a test and expected the flash to go off. It didn't go off, and I was like "wtf this pic will be shit" and lo and behold the picture was fucking perfect.

If your intent was to talk me into doing this also...

...you succeeded. I'ma do this as soon as I get back from my annual January va-cay.

You won't be disappointed. (assuming you don't live in podunkville where neither t-mobile or sprint work)

I was in the bathroom at work today and instead of 1 bar or no signal, I now have ~80% strength LTE. So awesome.
