Not quite, in '04 Kerry got 59,027,478 and Bush got 62,039,073 a difference of just over 3 million. (numbers from 270towin.com) CNN's numbers for this year has Obama at 63,859,336 and McCain at 56,377,274. A difference of about 7 and a half million.

271 votes in the electoral college is a clear mandate from the American people.

But 53% of the popular vote is not a landslide.

I've always hated the electoral college. It goes against the thought of your vote counting.
