My father is Vietnamese. He practically refused to teach me Vietnamese when I was a child because he wanted me to be super American or something. The relatives I visit the most are from my father's side and quite a few can't speak any English.
Edit: Oh! And I can't really use just Rosetta Stone to teach me Vietnamese because the program uses the Northern dialect and all of my father's family is from southern Vietnam. A cousin-in-law used the program to learn Vietnamese and most of the relatives can't understand him (although, the few in-laws from northern Vietnam can understand him perfectly). According to Dad, the Northerners butcher the language.
