ALSO
since Italian is basically Spanish with a funny accent I can understand the conversation of two Italian people.
can't speak a word of it, though.
Also, strangely enough, I could pick up some of what my romanian friends say, because some words are very similar to spanish

I know a decent smattering of German, enough to understand a basic conversation or understand (most of) a German sitcom. Some of this is from German lessons I took in primary school and the rest has come naturally from listening to and learning the meaning of German metal and goth dance music.
But the pronunciation of most non-technical spoken German is almost identical to the same or similar words in English so you can't help but understand half of it anway.
