generally i can't stand extensive one-on-one tutoring
if they need to pay for a private tutor, chances are there is something fundamentally off

yeah some people you just can't do anything for, but I usually do my best. I don't work with people long once i realize that they aren't willing to put reasonable effort into the subject matter. Generally, though, even if their basis is flawed or non-existent, it's usually just a matter of patience to build them up to a reasonable level. one on one tutoring, when done properly, is far more effective thana classroom environment.
