The most eventful 20 minutes of my life

I just went out to a bar with my best friend, a girl I have been seeing since my disasterous first date and her friend.
I got my date to bring her friend to double date with my best friend, and within 20 minutes I ended up knocking my best friend unconcious, telling my date to go fuck herself and making her best friend cry.

Am I a horrible person?

My best friend (Marcus) thought it would be fucking hilarious to invite my dates ex boyfriend and his new girl along to the bar for a drink. (They have known eachother for longer than I have known him).

My date thought I was trying to get her back with her ex, who was a complete dick to her, so told me she was going home.
Marcus then went outside and tried it on with my date, and asked her back to his.
Dates ex guy (Ryan) said how Marcus had tried it on with her when they were together, and how I was being played.
I asked Marcus this, and he didnt deny a thing. He walked off and asked my date AGAIN to go back to his, within my earshot. I told him to stop being a baby, so he took a swing at me, so I hit him, and he dropped like a sack of shit.

My date calls me a bully, so I told her where to go, and her best friend thought I had beaten up her date, started crying and went home.

I would rather not get in a fight over a girl on a first date, but I dont like being swung at

I'm thinking about it, and I realized a second ago that I have never thrown the first punch in a fight. Ever. And yet I've been in a fair few fights. I'm a big guy and I learned at a young age not to hit people who were smaller than me because I could hurt them. Hurting people has never really been my thing. I don't particularly enjoy fighting, but I'm not scared of it either. Why do people think it's a good idea to hit the big guy who didn't do anything to piss you off and is actually trying to defuse the situation? It seems like 90% of the fights I've been in have started like that.
