Actually, I took a good look at couchsurfing -- I'll probably end up using it just as soon as all the semi-personal contacts tell me no. The rough spot is that I need to crash for like 2 weeks, and most of the CS crowd looks centered around 2 or 3 night stays. However, I did catch a couple geographers on the list in London...maybe I can get one of them to buy in.
