Thread: Odd interests...

Anyone here have any interests that others may find odd?

I've noticed a growing interest in dead and dying malls and other commercial establishments over the past few years. As of now, the interest is limited to surfing blogs and sites such as deadmalls.com and labelscar.com, but I do sometimes look at places and wonder what might have been there 20 or more years ago; and have occasionally purposely driven by establishments long abandoned.

Perhaps this fascination is due to the rapid change in American retail establishments. When I was growing up downtown stores were still popular shopping destinations, Wal-Mart was just a small store with many competitors (I cannot honestly say I remember a Wal-Mart back then), and the mall itself was up-and-coming. I remember shopping at Woolworths and Thalhimer's and visiting Santa Land at Miller and Rhoads way back. I also remember when Bradlees, Ames and Roses were competitors to Kmart and Wal-Mart was hardly seen in my area. Then too, there were the abandoned Nicholl's stores that I cannot find any info on. Now, many of the places I fondly remember are flea markets, local shops, or have been adopted by low-tier chains such a Dollar Tree (which I remember as an up-and-coming mall store itself).

Anyway, thoughts, comments, other odd interests?

I like chickens.

I like stereotyping people based on their looks, dress and body language. Even if I don't know them or will ever meet them I imagine what kind of life they might live.

Apparently my interest in accounting is odd.

First one is okay, second one can only be justified if you're a jew.

It is a hobby and my field of study. I study it in school of course, but I also help my friends with their finances, investments, and taxes for funsies.

One of my odd interests is watching some people talk without hearing them, and then make up a fake conversation based on their body language and expression....yes, I'm very lonely.

I do that too except i actually voice the people and sometimes a friend and i will roleplay and do the same thing. fun stuff.

I have a fascination with the acoustic guitar that goes beyond anything else. I had the opportunity to practice with a P A system set up in town for the last couple weeks, and i would start playing at about 5 or 6 and leave at 12 feeling like maybe an hour had gone by. I can sit and listen to a master guitarist play for hours straight and not get the slightest bit bored.

Now, if you tell me to sit down and do some kind of homework, my attention span is roughly 30 seconds

Acoustic guitar isn't an odd interest. Every college guy with a soul patch and/or a fedora plays acoustic guitar.

Well I guess at a certain point anything can be an odd interest.

Say you walk into Cow's house, and its all about acoustic guitars. He has potraits on his walls of them. His couch is shaped and colored like one. He doesn't have a TV he has a acoustic guitar shaped like a TV on a TV stand. The toilet has a set up to where when you sit down you have an acoustic guitar automatically in position to play.

This can be odd.

I find repeating patterns in the holes in standard ceiling tile, and try to figure out when the related tiles were made and if the pattern creates a timeline as to the whole ceiling.

Also that last post was 666, so the timeline in question is probably "Satan!" or something.
