Well, Modelo, Pacifico, Dos Equis, Tecate > Corona. Those are the only beers I've had off that list, but IMO Corona is a shit mexican beer. And I've heard, although this may not be true, Corona here(US) is imported from Mexico, and Corona in Mexico is imported from the US. Which apparently they do so they can charge more for claiming to be an import no matter where it is. May or may not be true. Also, I'm pretty sure the company that makes Corona makes Sol too, which would explain why it sucks.

I've actually never heard of any of those...
Maybe they don't sell them in Canada...

    and Corona is Mexican..
    Why didn't someone tell me?!?

    EDIT: you just did

You're pretty knowledgeable about beer, man. Intense.

It says it right on the bottle....

But yeah, none of those beers are sold over here either so I'll stick with Corona if I want a Mexican beer. Which I pretty much never do. Actually Corona is a nice light lager. It's quite bland (bit better with lime) but it's not particularly intrusive and I usually enjoy them on a night out.

You should meet some of my friends. I'm a novice compared to some of them. Many of my friends are homebrewers, and self-proclaimed beer enthusiasts.

Edit: And yeah simonj, as far as mexican beer, I'm pretty much good on it unless it's a Pacifico. Pacifico is fucking delicious, try one if you ever see it.

huh.. it does say that.. I guess I never really payed attention to it

I only really drink Corona out of habit. I'm sure if I looked around I'd find another I'd like. I've only tried Corona, Bud Light Lime, Canadian, MGD and another one that I don't remember.

I'm sure if I taste tested I'd find one I'd be willing to switch to lol

English beers are the best. Actually there's lots of fantastic European beers too but I love proper English or Scottish beers.

There's a Scottish beer called Duechars which is lovely. I'm going up there in like a week and, providing I can carry it on the train, I'm going to bring back a shitload.

Also, being a Manc lad, nothing beats a can of Boddingtons Cask Ale.

From an American standpoint, as far as imported English beers, they aren't that bad, but then there aren't that many. And since WellAdjusted lives in Canada (I think), her selection will be similar to mine in Michigan. Here, the best brews you can get in the area widely are mostly German, Belgian, Scottish or Irish. But for the most part, I drink many things from breweries in America. Obviously not the super cheap domestics like Budweiser, Coors or Miller, which are all pisswater, but stuff from Magic Hat, Bell's, Rogue Brewery, Sam Adams, and tons of other microbreweries that aren't really so micro. As far as Canadian beer goes, I'll take an ice cold Molson Canadian any day of the week, it's a good lager, and much better than Labatts.

Edit: Good beers to start off with for someone who isn't used to drinking heavier beers are IPA's, lagers and pilsners.

I'm not too sure what any English beers are..

Next time I go to the beer store I'm definitely going to get something new. Probably going to try German because from what I hear they are a lot stronger than most.

I live about three or four hours from Michigan, so yeah our beer choices would be very similar.

Yeah, there are a lot of great German and Belgian beers.

Also, beers from Eastern Bloc countries tend to be great but very hard to find.

British beers in the USA/Canada will most likely be shit, though according to wikipedia Boddingtons is served in plenty of bars.
I saw a site that listed the top 10 English beers (that these people could get in the states) and number 4 was Newcastle Brown. So yeah, if that's the 4th best then the choice must be shit.

I really encourage you to try as many microbrews as you can, they tend to be really different and delicious. Just look for microbreweries near you, there should definitely be some, and if you only live a few hours away from Michigan, keep an eye out for Bell's Oberron. It's brewed in Michigan and is one of the best summer ales I've had. Actually, call around local alcohol retailers and ask if they have it, it's really worth it, and you can only get it during summer.

There is a local Brewery that I have yet to try...
We only really have The Beer Store and LCBO to buy beer from other than the local breweries that make/sell them.
I'll check out the beer store though, I want to try this beer. I'll probably be shopping in Michigan before the summer is up though. I'll grab some then haha

A nice cold Oberron, with an orange wedge or without, cannot be beaten on a hot summer day.

Oh there's a pub relatively near me that is it's own microbrewery (because it didn't want to adhere to some tax) and I keep meaning to go. I've forgotten the name though now. Shit. I'm gonna ask around and take someone there.

    Yazoo is an awesome Microbrewery.

The only beer that I've had that didn't come from Yazoo that made me think "goddamn this beer is amazing" was some Grolsch beer... and damn that shit was good(but now I haven't seen a Grolsch sold anywhere, so I must search again).

But most beer is the same to me, so I drink Steel Reserve like it's fine wine

Wow, Grolsch was the shitty cheap beer at the club I used to go to when I was 16 and started going out. It was 80p a bottle back then. Last time I went there (when I was 19) it was like £1.50. Then I got off with a 15 year old and began to see the downsides of a club that didn't ID anyone.

I had it once, and it had a clay bottle top(which struck me as weird as hell)

Do not buy English lager, I cannot stress that enough. Get yourself an ale.

Most American's don't even know what ale is. We are mostly a nation of pilsner and lager drinkers.

    djwolford is on the money.

The reason behind this is of course that all the really cheap domestics are pilsners and all the cheap imports are lagers for the most part. Ales tend to be more expensive and not as easy on an uneducated palate as the cheap pisswater pils you can get a case of for $12.

To be fair, that is true of most countries.
