Default I have a question about electricity and generators

My friend and I are planning to make music in his garage. There's no electricity so we're going to buy a generator. We're not sure how long the electricity will last, though. Lets say the generator is 600 watts and the music machine(MPC 2000XL) is 24 watts, the speakers are 40, and the lights are around 100 watts, how long will the power last?

I'm regretting not taking physics at this point.

    Please help.

    You're providing the wrong information.

A watt is a measurement of power, i.e. how fast you can produce energy, not how much energy you have to consume. All you know is that the maximum power output of your generator is sufficient to power everything you mention.

I know there's some confusion over what a watt is given that power consumption is often stated in the weird unit of "watt-hours." A joule is the SI unit of energy, and a watt is a joule of energy per second, so a watt hour is 3600 seconds times a watt, or really just 3600 joules of energy.

At any rate, what we really need to know here is how much fuel the thing holds and how much fuel generates a unit of energy.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to wire the garage, as well as be a home improvement upgrade to increase the home value?

Generators are loud, expensive, and inefficient. Save them for tailgates, not for powering the band

I'm totally confused, but I'm really appreciative of your answer. I'm planning on using this power source. My friend wants a more expensive one.

on the other hand, the generator may drown out the horrible sounds of the band's music, thus increasing the home value.

lol, its not really a band. Just a drum machine and a turntable. The type of music is irrelevant, though.

Ok man you gotta get is a gas powered generator. Then you gotta know how much gas it holds, and then how much gas it uses and then you'll know how long it will run. I don't know wtf you're planning on doing with that jump start pack but I've never seen anyone use those as a "generator" because it's only going to last for about 2 or 3 hours and after about an hour and half it might not even be able to maintain the power needed to keep the lights on steady. A gas powered generator would keep your lights and all running for a day or so at least.

That thing wont last long at all.

You will need a gas generator. Something in the 800-1200W area. And dont be surprised when you find out they cost like $900.

It would be cheaper to wire the garage. Get extension cords.

Ok. I'm a lineman so my point is valid and only superceeded by a liscensed electrician. You aren't going to be using a lot of power but if I were you I would wire the garage. It would be the most economical way. If you get a generator get at least a 2.5 but get the highest one you can afford. A 10 is going to be much better when the house lights go out and you can run an ac unit and not just an icebox

10 amu occupyiing 2.5 liters of volume... that's either non-baryonic matter or at vara vara high temperatures.

The problem is that the garage is about a block and a half away from the apartment so I don't think we could wire it.

How exactly do you wire a garage. I seriously don't know anything about this stuff. What would you need?

But according to commentary, the NavComputer on the Falcon reorganized the run to a shorter distance or some shit.

fyi the kessel run is a trade route riddled with black holes, so to do it with a shorter distance means going closer to black holes, which is more dangerous and requires greater piloting expertise but will get you through it quicker

this is what i read some years ago and i've remembered it god knows why

ooooh so this is how they justify the writers not knowing that a parsec is a unit of distance not time

Amps. A 10 amp generator is goos sized one. Depending on how big your house is though. If you are going for one that can run your whole house look and see what size transformer you have. 10 15 or25 amp. A small house usually 10. Medium house 15 and a large or two mediums a 25. That's just ballpark though ymmv.

Most of life really is a measurement of balls but people who don't have a pair are busy trying to hide it by confusing the issue.

Boys do what they can, men do what they want.

Wtf. If it's just an MPC and some decks why don't you just hook the two up to some active monitors and play in your bedroom?

It doesn't have to be so loud that you need to play in a garage. That's for when you have real drums.
