Cool Volunteers and Donations[Who here isn't a selfish bastard?]

In the last while I've done a lot of volunteering for some perplexing reason because deep down I know I'm a self-loathing asshole. I dedicated a lot of my time and it feels really good. Not like substance abuse induced good or wild romps through the seedier areas of Virginia, but a holier-than-thou good that my ticket to Heaven has gone from denied to pending status. Does anyone else here not sit on the computer all day and help the less fortunate?

Recently served food for the homeless, setup a shelter for battered women, help and cheered on those at the local special olympics, cleaned the grimy trashy beaches of virginia, donated blood, signed up for the bone marrow registry, and did yardwork for the elderly. I know I'm bragging, but my real intention is to see if anyone else here does any other unself-serving duty that could probably inspire me or others to pick it up. Some other opporutunity.

not so much now, but i did travel volunteering, and helped out at a food kitchen downtown up until about a year ago. From time to time, if I'm free, I'll offer help to a stranger doing yardwork or something and then never speak to them again. Not so much in the past year, I guess, but especially when I was younger I would do this.

No, but I used to tell myself I was planning on doing it, until I realized that it wasn't going to happen.

I was driving home yesterday, and as I came down the road I saw a Mexican man with a Clydesdale. The Clydesdale was lying on it's side and couldn't get up. Since this is a potentially fatal position for a horse to find itself in, the man was trying his hardest to pull the horse up to it's feet. I stopped my truck, went over and unhooked the horse's saddle. The saddle fell free, and the horse was able to come to it's feet without the added weight and bondage of the saddle.
I'd seen similar situations with my own horses so I knew what to do, although I figured that removing the saddle from a downed animal was common sense. I imagine if I wouldn't have come by the guy would have let the horse twist and roll until it's intestines got impacted.

Ironically enough, if I would have come across a Mexican man rolling in the ditch, unable to get up. I wouldn't have stopped.

murder?! are you actually ascribing personhood to non-whites, especially the filthy mexicans? they aren't humans, so at most it would be animal abuse, but i mean...

Me being a "racist bastard" doesn't necessarily mean not "ascribing person hood to nonwhites".
The same way you being a flaming homosexual doesn't necessarily mean you suck dick in toilet stalls.

I did Relay for Life for 5 years. I raised a buttload of cash for cancer research. If that counts.

I volunteered @ an animal shelter every other wkend for 2 yrs when I lived in florida.

2 weeks ago my job organized an outing where we volunteered in downtown Dallas to fix up elderly/disabled/dis advantaged people's houses etc.

I also didn't call the cops when this stupid bitch rear-ended my car a few weeks ago. Minor damage. No big deal.

I do WoW instead of helping people.

I help made NPC's rescue the world of Azeroth rather than helping real human beings who suffer.

I volunteer 30-40 hours per semester with various philanthropy efforts both at school and in the Atlanta business community. Over the summer when I lived at home I coached kids soccer bc I was so bored and wanted an excuse to run around and kick a ball--next summer I want to coach YMCA flag football for the 8 year olds and it's gonna be like that episode of Always Sunny except I'm gonna win.

You just don't hear me talk about this stuff because I have a reputation to uphold.

Also fun fact, most people in corporate america would prefer a day of mandatory paid volunteer work day (Habitat, soup kitchen, food bank, etc) to paid time off.

Do I look like I want to ruin my suit and tie that I will be wearing as I storm up and down the sidelines, motivating my players to die for the extra inch for the first down, yelling at refs for their bullshit calls, etc etc.

    Also post-game press conferences.

I have a phobia of touching public doors so I let them slam on the people behind me.

On Sunday I did a walk for kidneys at the philadelphia zoo.
