Successful potheads.

For years now, my brother and I have been arguing about pot. He claims that the Doors, the Beatles, and pretty much every musician in the '60's was successful because they smoked pot. I disagree, believing that they were talented musicians who just happened to smoke pot, and drugs didn't need to be credited to their success.

Anyway, I finally challenged him, a hardcore pothead who defends drug culture, to tell me about the most successful pothead he knows personally. So far, he has informed me that one of these stoners is the assistant dinner-rush manager at a local Denny's.

Amazing I know. Though I have nothing against potheads, I do find their drug loyalty annoying at certain times. Plus, they always use a famous person who smoked to justify partaking of it themselves. But anyway, this has got me thinking that I should broaden my search, so that's why I made this thread.

Do you know any potheads who are leading successful lives and going against the burnout grade? I don't mean someone who occasionally rolls a joint, but rather someone who is stoned all the time. Wake and bakers a prime example. Do these folks consider their drug of choice a contributor to their success in anyway?

I know a dude who runs a bank and gets stoned like that, but the truth is that there's a huge difference between smoking pot all day long and partaking in a joint or two during the evenings and weekends to unwind.

Like, replace weed with any other intoxicant and say someone does it all day every day, and see how successful they are. That's just excess, and it's hard to be successful in a traditional sense if you're not EVER sober. So I think your question is fairly retarded, frankly. Of course the odds aren't great that a total burnout is going to be a CEO of a Fortune 500 company. But there are probably a lot more CEOs than you think who toke up in the privacy of their own homes.

I know a guy who doesn't really smoke weed, but trips and does stimulants more than I've ever seen anyone do, and he's in his 3rd year of College for Chemical Engineering(I think?)

The only stoner (besides my brother, manager of a sub shop) I know is this dude, and all he wants to do is smoke and go for nature walks. Like, so much so that his girlfriend broke up with him and he no longer has any friends.

Someone who smokes all day everyday and is successful has either no work to do(got rich quick?), is a superhero or doesn't exist. There are however tons of people who smoke at the end of their day when others would have a few drinks. If weed is made legal there will still be people who smoke all the time every day who are complete loser fuck ups and there there will still be people who lead successful productive lives and smoke in moderation. How hard is this for people to understand.

Saying that the big 60's bands got big in the 60's because they smoked weed is like saying someone fell into the ocean and drowned from the salt.

Well its not pot but the entire banking industry is run on coke. This is taken from people I know that work for wall street to AIG, Lehman brothers (before they went bust), to off shore banking guys.

Almost every night of the week these guys are snorting. So yeah even with drugs you can be pretty successful, well maybe right now the bank industry isn't a good example but any given time in the past would have been and it was the same back then as it is now.

I believe them too. That doesn't mean that drugs don't help other musicians though.

There is a difference between drugs helping a musician and drugs making a musician. I mean, my favorite Beatles' song is Lucy In the Sky With Diamonds, but I'm not saying drugs made that song.

Of all bands, the beatles is one that was highly influenced by drugs. So was Pink floyd, rolling stones etc. To say that drugs didn't play a direct part in the making of their music is just wrong.

Actually the role drugs played in all of those bands is highly overstated. The only member of Pink Floyd who heavily took drugs was Syd Barrett and we all know that didn't end well.

I'm not saying the credit goes to the drugs, because they are all amazing musicians and normal people on those drugs couldn't make that kind of music. You can't say it didn't help them though.

First of all, drugs were as a whole nowhere near as potent as they are now. Secondly, I'm not sure I buy that from McCartney. I know he was a huge stoner during his Beatles tenure, but as for it actually helping him write songs...it's a nice story but probably not totally true.

as a pothead i'd like to say that just because someone is successful and smokes pot doesn't mean pot made them successful. it just means they can do both.
