An Albertan Communist I know said this once:
The only anglo Canadians that you could make the argument for nation status are the people of Newfoundland. They do inhabit a specific territory (although there has been a diaspora because of the loss of fishing jobs and collapse of the economy), they have a specific regional dialect that includes words not found in the general Canadian vernacular (possibly rooted in old Celtic), they have a distinct culture and traditions, and they were even a seperate country up until 1947.

In Canada, they are known colloquially as "Newfies", they generally perform menial labour across the country (we have several on the oil rigs), and they are the subjects of intense national chauvenism, specifically wide spread mockery of their regional accent and bitterness that now former Newfie fishermen are recieving government aid on a large scale. Even the smallest trace of Newfie tongue in a persyns speech brings laughter from other anglo-Canadians...

You could perhaps make an argument that Hutterites on the prairies qualify for nation status as well. They have territories which they are centered in, they have a distinct culture and language (they still speak German for the most part), they have a distinct economy ( they live communally, and they still use many forms of barter among themselves and others), and they ar emore ethnically homogenous than any other group in Canada most likely (to the point of inbreeding)...

As usual, they face national chauvenism from Society at large, being characterized as un-scrupulous thieves and Alcoholics, and when they do venture off of their colonies, they end up work low paying menial jobs for anglo-Canadians.
