Thread: Best time to show up for work

What time do you guys go to work every day?

My work wants me to come 15 minutes early. They say like I can't come in on time. Say if I start at 10:00. Come in at exactly 10:00. That doesn't work. So I guess 9:59 would work. But they want at least 5 minutes. I would prefer 2 or 3.

If I come to early my female coworkers might get mad at me for staring at them. I mean I'm not on shift yet. Not much to do. And if I start conversations with them, my supervisor comes in and tells me to talk to them on my own time not when they are working.

I also would have to avoid being in everyone's way. You know because they start early and if I'm there, I could some how be in their way. Like if I was standing around or something.

I don't want to work before my shift since my supervisor tries to make us work to the end of our shift. My supervisor actually said I had to stay until 4:31 lets say if I end at 4:30. They own the 4:30.

I know what you guys may be thinking, come in early. But when I do I get tempted to look at my hot female coworkers. They sometimes tell me to stop looking at them. Sometimes they don't. I mean different if I am working because I am paid to work. But having to come into work unpaid that is different.

Help please?

Also, how early do you guys come for work? Is coming 1-3 minutes before your start time acceptable or should 5 be the standard? Like I don't see how we should be punished if we come in at 9:58 for a 10:00 shift. One of my jobs said I had to work ten minutes before shift or less I was fired. Another said 15 minutes ahead of time but you don't have to work or else fired.

So what are your thoughts on this situation? Company and time policies. Legal or unlegal? Accepable or not?

I know that it is hard to get a job now and maybe I should be on my best behavior by coming early but is my boss out of line or am I?

Maybe I am just a clock-watcher.

If I were to actually go to work early, what should I do? If I was just sitting and waiting alone every day, it could be so boring. On the other hand if I daydream during work, my supervisors tell me to stop. I'm not sure how they know. How do you think they know?

Most of them live at the restaurant, at least the ones that want to get ahead.

When they look like they're just "coming in" to work, they actually had gone out the secret cramped nasty little habitat made for them, went out to do some errands, and then came back through the front entrance looking like they had been gone since their last shift.

So yeah, totally sleep at your restaurant. Become one with it.
