Coq's Mafia Madness v.2.98 (beta)! GAME OVER: Cassette Tape Mafia Wins!

Oh no! It's happening again! CompactDiscVille, once a peaceful hamlet heavily involved in plastic and music manufactury has recently come under Mafia control. Before, 10 people lived in harmony. Now, 9 people live in fearful suspicion of each other when TIDUS [ASS-WEIGHT TO OPERATE PLASTIC PRESS] was found in a pool of his own blood and lard, greasing up the city square and causing a 9 car pile-up as everyone tried to get to work. Upon investigation, he was found with several stab wounds, several gun wounds, a garrotte around his neck and blunt force trauma all over his body. Who could have done this? In CDV, everyone had a motive, everyone is a suspect and people are gonna die until the threat is eliminated.

Rules!

General rules apply. During the day phase, a majority vote causes a lynch which reveals a role and ends the day phase. There is a time limit on how long the Day phase may last, decided by me arbitrarily. Basically, as long as there is discussion and activity, the Day will go on until a lynch. If the game loses activity, I will set a deadline to restimulate the playing. If a day is just taking too long because you're all wishy-washy pansies, I'll just set a deadline.

At night, night actions are submitted and resolved by the GM with the results posted when everyone has acted, bringing the Day Phase back. The hard time limit for night actions will be 24 hours. Since you are required to make one post per day, you can send in a night action when you check the thread. I don't want this game just sputtering out.

The winner of the game will be sent an autographed portrait of me, to place on their mantle that they may bask in the glory of Mafia until their final day.

There are a couple of special rules:

1) No Private Messaging.

aka no secret alliances.

There is to be no communication about gameplay in this game outside of this thread, aside from the Quicktopic I've assigned to certain players in their role PM. As soon as I find out a message has been sent, I will modkill the sender. You are, of course, free to PM me at any time you'd like.

2) You must post at least once each day.

aka POST POST POST

Not once each game day. Once every real, 24-hour period day. If you don't, I'll send you a PM warning you. If you have enough warnings, I'll just modkill you. If you have only limited access to the internet, let me know somehow. I'm pretty understanding about this stuff.

For the record, breaking rules will mostly be me correcting you. If it becomes a serious problem (guys, I don't expect this at all, but you never know), I will just kill you off and replace you with someone on the replacement list.

This is not an open setup! This means there is no list of roles at the beginning of the game. I have informed you all that this is, in fact, a bastard mod. I'll reveal everything at the end of the game, I promise.

edit: Someone voiced a concern that because it's a closed set up, those unfamiliar with the game might not know some of the special roles being used. Here is a link that describes pretty much every role that's been devised. All role types in game are listed in this link, albeit with one or two minor changes for balance purposes. Be prepared for a shitshow. This is a bastard mod. It isn't like the last two mafia games at all.

You are a quiet denizen of CompactDiscVille and you have the divine power (and duty) to remove all mafia from town by their necks.  You will talk amongst yourselves to determine who to vote and hang.  The power of life and death is in your hands.  You win when all threats to the town have been eliminated.

For the record, roles were selected randomly in the following manner. Roles were numbered 1-9. I went through the player's list and used the random number generator on random.org to select a number. That number went to the name. The remaining roles were numbered 1-8 and the process was repeated.

I will unlock this thread and the game will begin once everyone has confirmed with me and received their role PM. PM me any questions you may have!

DAY 1 BEGINS

Light peeks over the horizon, illuminating the town of CDville. While it lights up the eyes of it's denizens, it does not shed light on the mystery and oppressive feeling that dominates the now quiet streets. Who killed tidus? Nobody cares why, or misses him particularly, but the threat that lingers in the air from the inexplicable murder is too much for the town.

Decide amongst yourselves who is to live and who is to die.

With 9 Alive, it takes 5 to lynch. Votecounts come once per day.

b)a mafioso would realise a) and make sure a non-mafioso were suggested as "default" first

atmosfear would do b) if he were a mafioso, would do a) if he were a townie, but on the other hand this is a bastard mod and atmosfear could be doing absolutely fucking anything

but really I'm just pointing this out because it's not firm reasoning of any kind, doesn't make killing atmosfear a tangible amount less than random, and I'm going to suggest that if we are just random-killing (and we are) then let's lynch mr shrike, the point at which stupidity becomes indistinguishable from evil (i.e. if it's random game wise then it can still be quite advantageous to the town in other ways)

I was going to say "there's a distinction between saying absolutely nothing and making observations without making provisional conclusions. Better it gets said and atmosfear's future behaviour is seen through its lens than its being passed over totally."

Well Adjusted and Zuelan have been prodded

as a minor note... you aren't forced to lynch the first person you wagon. If you find out that they don't seem scummy or that someone else is acting in a more obviously mafia way, there's nothing saying you can't build a case out of the next person and build a wagon on them. Use wagons to pressure people and see how they react and only hammer when you're sure you've got scum. If you just randomly vote and lynch the first person you name, what kind of information do you get on Day 2?

i would really prefer a timeline more than a "O, i won't be back until this phase is over."

These were my acronyms for "coq has missed Think's vote so I have evened it up - a vote change or bandwagon now will be informative since we need five to lynch. Michelle Pfeiffer = nothing personal against zuelan." It'd be nice to know who tipped coq off because the mafia is more likely to notice, and why would a townie tell coq anonymously? Based on the timing of Think's post at 11:16 and coq's edit at 11:29, Think is an obvious suspect.

Lynching MrShrike isn't clearly beneficial, as only one voter (Think) gave a real reason and he didn't answer my question in post #15 (people not paying attention are more likely to be townies). My guess for mafia atm is Atmosfear/Think.

I've not had anything to add since you also voted for zuelan. I'm also not entirely sober and I've not slept (it's 7am).

So far I'm pretty suspicious of WellAdjusted because avoiding making any sort of vote is a pretty basic mafia tactic and she's inexperienced enough to make that move as a mafia. Sponge and Atmosfear have both made votes based entirely on previous prejudices and that's a pretty good way of disguising a manipulative lynch-attempt.

For now though I have no real reason to change my original vote for zuelan.

Isn't it interesting that the only person voting for me right now with a semi-logical reason, that isn't based entirely on having a sook about the last game, is Welladjusted?

When Welladjusted is intellectually leading your charge you might to rethink your game plan guys.

Right now the most suspicious person is simonj, who mysteriously pipes up with a bunch of irrelevant bullshit about being drunk/confused, but apparently still coherent enough to point the finger at both sponge and atmosfear - yet doesn't vote for either, or even change his randomly select vote for Zuelan.
