I feel like there may already be a thread like this.. but still
I hate it when professors tell you to write an essay, but give you nothing. Like I have to write an essay proposal and all he gave us was an example of one. He doesn't tell us what it has to be on or anything. His isn't even related to the topic of the course. BULLSHIT

This reminds me of the episode of Doug where they're producing the school TV program and Roger gets his own segment that is just him complaining. It started with him saying "do you know what really grinds my gears?" and his major complaint was also something to do with teachers.
Also isn't the whole point of writing an essay proposal that you come up with the topic yourself?

well yes but like.. he doesn't tell us anything, it is religion and popular culture and like.. there is a shit load of things i could do it on. He hasn't told us what kind of essay or anything, and he is one of those profs that would like.. murder your essay regardless of how much info he gave you on it
he calculated how much tuition each of our classes is worth and makes a point to keep us at least 5 min past the end of class each day

i was quail man for halloween one year
so I just wikipedia'd doug and the producer had his money on doug over rugrats and ren and stimpy... he was definitely wrong. Though I wish he wasn't.

I am a Health Studies and Psychology double major. The lead health studies prof usually gives you a choice to write an essay or have your final exam worth more, and I always choose the exam.
jesus. I go to the University of Arkansas for christ sake and I average about three essays a semester.

I mean you're really lucky. I'm writing my third essay for Freshman English II right now and there are two other essays scheduled for the class.
Although... I did fail Freshman English twice, so maybe that's why I've written a fair amount of essays...
failed the class twice because attendance was mandatory
not because I'm too stupid to crank out some essay about "my favorite memory" or some other bs freshman english assignment

I am pretty lucky, but I haven't taken one of the mandatory classes yet (well I'm currently enrolled) which requires about 3 or 4 essays. So that should bring my count up to it.
But like.. 5 essays for one class is ridiculous. My roommate is an english major and she has 19 books for ONE CLASS. Fucking ridiculous
Class better be "How to maintain a library"

Only you are dumb enough to complain about a professor who says "choose your own topic and write an essay."
Write a fucking proposal based on a paper you've already written for another class. Correct the paper and turn it in, problem solved.

I go to WLU, UW is in the same town though.
I am not the only person who finds this frustrating. I am not using another essay of mine though, I plan to write a new one.
Well I have the proposal done, anyways so whatevahhh
