Rules!

General rules apply. During the day phase, a majority vote causes a lynch which reveals a role and ends the day phase. There is a time limit on how long the Day phase may last, decided by me arbitrarily. Basically, as long as there is discussion and activity, the Day will go on until a lynch. If the game loses activity, I will set a deadline to restimulate the playing. If a day is just taking too long because you're all wishy-washy pansies, I'll just set a deadline.

At night, night actions are submitted and resolved by the GM with the results posted when everyone has acted, bringing the Day Phase back. The hard time limit for night actions will be 24 hours. Since you are required to make one post per day, you can send in a night action when you check the thread. I don't want this game just sputtering out.

There are a couple of special rules:

1) No Private Messaging.

aka no secret alliances.

There is to be no communication about gameplay in this game outside of this thread, aside from the Quicktopic I've assigned to certain players in their role PM. As soon as I find out a message has been sent, I will modkill the sender. You are, of course, free to PM me at any time you'd like.

2) You must post at least once each day.

Not once each game day. Once every real, 24-hour period day. If you don't, I'll send you a PM warning you. If you have enough warnings, I'll just modkill you. If you have only limited access to the internet, let me know somehow. I'm pretty understanding about this stuff.

Setup!

The game will run off one of four possible setups:

2 goons, 1 cop, 6 town
2 goons, 1 doc, 6 town
1 goon, 1 mafia roleblocker, 1 cop, 1 doc, 5 town
1 goon, 1 mafia roleblocker, 7 town

Which setup is used will be determined randomly when player roles are to be assigned.

So that if a blocker does show up, the mafia isn't aware of whether there's a cop/doc or no town power roles while the town has no information on the setup

Also what's a "roleblocker"? That sounds basically identical to what the doc does...

a role blocker prevents a selected role from peforming that role at night.

if doc tries to protect and is targeted by roleblocker, doc does not protect
if cop tries to investigate and is targeted by roleblocker, no investigation goes through

the roleblocker is not informed on whether or not their block was successful
the blocked party is informed that they were blocked, but do not know who

...then I agree with Atmostits about setup four. I mean okay, so there's a setup with a roleblocker just to make us unaware of what other special roles there are. But still, it's so terribly useless...

I'll still go along with it, if coq in his glorious wisdom thinks it enhances the metagame sufficiently.

What's more useful than being a roleblocker is knowing there's a cop/doc combo with the ability to block it with the town uncertain of whether there's even a cop or a doctor (much less both). To correct the imbalance, setup 4 is used. The idea isn't to rely on power roles, which is the point of this.

When there's a cop, they know it's 1/2 possible setups, same with the doctor. They are also much more valuable than regular townies

If setup 4 didn't exist, the advantage would go to the Mafia, who would know it has to be 1 setup. The cop and doc would still only know if it's 1 of 2.

Coq the difference for the cop and doctor is that they are independent. They know the likely setups, but there's too much risk to reveal themselves. Sure, up to 2 townies have an idea of the setup, but they can't effectively communicate it.

Combine that with the fact that setup 4 is mafia-favored and the mafia are hedging pretty well.

Oh good... Game theory. Since there are no special roles, we can just power through with math.

Mathematically (probabilistically), setup 4 favors mafia 60-40. Since this is a small player pool, we can expect games to more closely follow random assortment (if there were double the playerpool in the same ratios, there would be more votes and thus more chances to gain information to skew results away from random.) A clever town player may be able to tip the odds a bit toward the middle, but so could a clever mafia. 9 players just isn't a good player count without roles.

And yes, when it reaches 1 mafia, 2 town, it is a 50-50 outcome. Because the town cannot tie and no lynch, and a player cannot vote for himself, it always amounts to two players voting for eachother and the third breaking the tie.

did you model your numbers off 2 mafia and 7 townies? it's a 9 player game, but it seems like you're running equations for a 7 person game.
