These are the rallying cries to take it down a notch, to gather the 70% of America that has too much "shit to do" for outlandish theatrics which end up on the 24 hour news cycle cable channels.

THERE WILL BE NICE PEOPLE, FUN... MAYBE SOME SPECIAL GUESTS.

deficit spending is higher than usual because of the government trying to offset the effects of the recession to some extent, and would be whether stimulus was in the form of tax cuts or government spending.

corruption is at no different level than it ever has been in the past. you're just pissed off because our economy is in the shitter due to the unsustainable and at times illegal business practices of the private financial sector (oh wait that's right we have a free market economy, just to remind you), and you need an easy target so you're saying that government corruption is "through the roof." granted, what corruption there is is not acceptable and is truly scandalously bad, especially with members of state legislatures, but it is at no different levels than it ever has been.

Do you mean hiring seasonal census workers to tamper with unemployment numbers for a couple months to try to overstate the success of recovery efforts for political gain won't dig us out of a hole?

The idea of a big government spending itself out of debt isn't unfounded; that was largely FDR's model and, despite some awful consequences we're still coping with today (social security that's awesome), it can be successful in the near term. The important difference is that a large amount of FDR's spending was directed at infrastructure projects that also helped develop specialized skills that could later be applied to niche (if not public sector) markets after the easement of the need for government spending. The key is that the spending has to target infrastructure projects. Let the government foot the bill today for a project that will net ROI tomorrow by building a backbone for economic development.

Unfortunately, the closest Obama has gotten to this is his super-rail idea.

It was kind of funny when, shortly after the G8, there was a lot of talk about unemployment numbers and they said "yeah, unemployment is way down, there were an additional 10,000 jobs created last month" which was, of course, all work for the G8 that lasted a week or so

my essay title is a work in progress, might end up scrapping it altogether. Hopefully this rally might give it a few more ideas. Hopefully, it will be about the growth of the USA and its possible downfall, looking on politics (and other major factors, maybe even some obscure things to do with sociolinguistics) as a cultural factor and a cultural divide. So obviously the rally would be an excellent example.

Basically, I'm making it up as I go along and really want to see some funny men being funny and maybe a little bit right too.

Well I didn't say that, but it depends largely on your definition of appropriate. If by "appropriate" you mean "a response with the ability to relieve difficult economic conditions" then sure, I guess it's appropriate. But launching a massive, global-scale war would also thus be considered an appropriate response.

If by appropriate, you mean effective and efficient without glaring political exploitations and shortcomings, then I don't consider it appropriate at all.
