Fucking hell, lost my response.
Gwahir: the walking dead is just alright. The series premier was awesome, and could have stood alone as a movie, and a good one at that. The rest...meh. It's getting better, especially because the redneck dude is actually a really good character. But still...meh. I'm not quite caught up yet, so we'll see.
Shortage: has boardwalk gotten better? I made it through eight episodes of season one and the show just never hooked me. Is there any reason to give.it another shot?
Also, the last season of weeds was fucking terrible. As were the last four. I'm done with that show.
The one show that consistently comes up is game of thrones. That was going to be next but I accidentally started watching homeland and now I'm hooked.
I guess I should add Louie, wilfred, mad men and breaking bad to the list since I was only counting shows in the middle of a season.
Community
Big Bang Theory (yeah, I know)
Parks and Rec
30 Rock
HIMYM
Louie
The Wednesday night shows on ABC (I follow all of them, currently)
Burn Notice
One Piece (probably doesn't count, but still)
Probably forgetting some stuff.
If the title was shows that I like but don't keep up with as much as I would like, the list would be a bit longer.
The title was specifically for shows you make sure to watch, but feel free to include shows you watch casually too. But I was more interested in what people are actually invested in, as opposed to what they simply tolerate.
Shows I never miss an episode:
Community
South Park
Dexter
Fringe
Person of Interest
Game of Thrones
Covert Affairs
Shows I'll watch when I can:
Prophets of Science Fiction
HIMYM
Daily Show
Colbert Report
Nova
I just went through Mad Men and now I'm hooked. I need to finish the last three seasons of Entourage which I think has recently ended. I caught a few episodes of Sons of Anarchy and want to get into as well as Trueblood. Also, I need to get into Dexter again. I'm all caught up on Southpark and Family Guy. I have no idea whats been going on with Weeds since the end of Season 5 or Breaking Bad.
My favorite show that I have no idea if they continued or not is Californication after season 4.
I kind of feel left out because I'm not really into sitcoms or regular network television. I don't understand the prejudice but I know trying to watch any quickly loses my interest.

Mad Men is awesome. Probably the second best show on TV at the moment behind Breaking Bad.
Ditch Weeds. It gets way, way worse. If you think it will ever be like it was for the first three seasons, you're mistaken. It only gets worse.
This last season of Breaking Bad was possibly the best season of television for any show, ever. That should be top priority.
Dexter's fine. This is a strong season, so if you liked last season you'll like this one a lot more.
Entourage is meh. I like it, but it's nothing special. Californication airs in a month, which I am looking forward to. That's a very good show.
I've yet to start this season of True Blood. It's low on my list at the moment. I still need to finish The Shield, watch season 1 of Game of Thrones, and keep up with Dexter and Homeland. Sons of Anarchy is somewhere on that list, probably above True Blood.
And to be honest, there's nothing particularly special about network sitcoms. Though I will say that Parks and Rec is an extremely well done show that doesn't get nearly enough attention. If you can get past the fact that the first season sucked, it really picks up in the second (plus season 1 is only six episodes, so it's not that much to deal with). Community is fine, probably overrated at this point because it's gotten worse, but it's good. Way better than Weeds and Entourage, that's for sure.
Family guy...I don't think I've watched since season six or so. Saw all the eps before that. All the fox animation sunday shows are stretched too thin in my opinion, they basically turned one show into three, and Family Guy definitely suffered for it.
What! You fucking take that back. Community set up a three year joke (http://www.iwatchstuff.com/2011/11/c...eatness-wi.php) How is that not completely awesome? There are so many background gags, references to previous episodes, parodying of sitcom tropes, not to mention how funny the show is. I love how smart Community is.
Perhaps you misunderstood me. Community made the short list of shows I'm willing to watch. I've yet to miss an episode. When I fall behind, I minimarathon to catch up.
But that said, compared to the first season, the second season is worse. Compared to the second season, the third season is worse.
I didn't say it isn't one of the best shows on TV, I didn't say it wasn't clever. I just said it was overrated. And it is. Because a lot of fans view it as the greatest thing ever, flawless, can do no wrong. But the fact is, the writing is getting less clever, not more clever. Nothing will ever beat the original paintball episode.
It's just a feel thing, it's obviously hard to prove quality objectively. I just have the gut feeling that the show is tailing off and will continue to do so. I still recommend it to pretty much every nerd I know. It's still great. It's just not perfect, and perhaps more importantly it's not improving.
nod
Ok I feel you.
i think a lot of what they're doing now is as good at or better than the original paintball episode. i know it's a megafavourite, but it's not even in my top three list of best episodes.
I'm pretty partial to the DnD episode, for whatever reason. I just thought the whole thing was really well done.
@gwahir - i don't know. the paintball episode isn't really one of my favourites, but it's one of the more densely constructed episodes that really stands up under scrutiny. I laughed harder at others (like the DnD, the timeline episode etc.) but they weren't written nearly as well as the paintball.
i totally agree, i just don't see it as the pinnacle. i feel like it has broader appeal than some better episodes -- paradigms of human memory is a fave, cooperative calligraphy, DnD. and some season one stuff (i find the debate episode the strongest single episode of season one, and the strongest "nothing super weird is going on here" episode until "calligraphy".) as well as chaos theory, and the recent documentary redux -- which can be discounted from this list if you want, as the recent news about haitus gave it a bit of meta gravitas it wouldn't have had on its own (but it was still super awesome).
What shows are on Adult Swim nowadays that are worth watching? There are half a dozen over the years that have been awesome, but I haven't kept up in a couple years.
And as for the Modern Warfare episode: I think it was the first glimpse for many people of what Community was, what it was capable of, and what it offered. It certainly was for me. When I saw that episode for the first time when a friend showed it to me, I realized that this was a show I needed to watch. That's why it has a special place in my heart. It might not be the best episode, but it's easily the most accessible, and it definitely got many of the future fans of the show on board. That has to count for something.
All I know is that the Chaos Theory episode was a just as good as any episode from season 1 (except for Modern Warfare of course) IMO.
I don't care that Community isn't accessible, most great shows aren't accessible if you just watch one random episode because you lack familiarity with the characters and situations. Granted it is expected that sitcoms shouldn't be like this, but even shows where you can just jump in and enjoy an episode with no background are way better once you catch up with the backlog. Though, I can't fathom who would watch one episode of Community and be able to not want to see every episode.
Wait, I guess I can. There are people out there who like Two and a Half Men.
Chuck
Eureka
Warehouse 13
HIMYM
Big Bang Theory
30 Rock (This is new, I just watched the first 5 seasons)
Community
Dexter
Doctor Who
Family Guy
Game of Thrones (I just finished reading "A Dance With Dragons")
Harry's Law (although I've fallen way behind on it recently, I don't like the changes they made and expect it to be cancelled)
House
Last Man Standing (Holy shit this is an awesome show you should be watching it, why aren't you watching it?!)
Mythbusters
Gold Rush (I'm not proud of this, but I like to laugh at the idiots on this show)
Person of Interest (Also a great show!)
Storm Chasers
Whale Wars (Once again, not proud of it, but I enjoy laughing at people who don't know what the fuck they're doing)
What is Last Man Standing? I've never even heard of it.
Justified
Wilfred
Survivor
Shows I want to keep up with but forget they are on...
Big bang theory
30 Rock
Don't you people have DVRs or HTPCs or anything?
ya
Community
Dexter
Big Bang Theory - not because it's funny, but because there's the off-chance Kaley Cuoco will appear in a revealing outfit
How I Met Your Mother
South Park
Also shows that I'm watching that are between seasons:
Cougar Town
Californication
Breaking Bad
Everything I know about Cougar Town I learned from Abed from Community.
Just picked up Homeland again. Halfway through episode 9. Great show. I forgot how good it really is. Might be the best show on TV at the moment.
about to start watching the latest season of HIMYM.
Have seen every NCIS apart from the latest season because I want to make love to Leroy Jethro Gibbs
Frozen Planet was pretty good.

I hated the start of this season's HIMYM. I watched everything up to that point and just decided I couldn't do it anymore.
