To be honest, Daniel Craig's Bond is very similar to Timothy Dalton's in Licence To Kill. That was also very raw, dark, violent but not over the top.

And although Licence to Kill was clearly underfunded (looked/felt more like a TV movie) and there was still a few too many Bond cliches (daft gadgets, stupid one-liners etc.) I'd still say it's a very underrated movie and certainly in the top 10. Maybe even in my top 5 (at a push).
