    Default Taken

I just saw this film last night, and thought it was awesome.
This isn't a review as such, more fuel for discussion.

The story for anyone who doesn't know, is a retired government spy/bodyguard/soldier (Liam Neeson) who is seperated from his wife, who has his 17 year old daughter.
His daughter wants to go to Paris for a holiday with a friend, reluctantly he signs the papers.
To cut short, she gets abducted by Albanian sex traders, while on the phone to her father. (Not as lame as it sounds)
Hunt for killers ensues, traditional government spy action thriller.

If it wasn't for the very emotional story of this being the sex trade, I think I'd have thought much less of this film, as it can appear pretty samey.
Like I say though, there are some scenes in this film that are quite distressing I can imagine to some, I'm a very desensitized person, I can watch anything, but this struck a nerve in some senses, the feeling of helplessness probably.

    I'd definitely recommend it.

    Anyone else seen it?

I loved this movie, Liam Neeson was such a fucking badass. He needs to do more movies like this.

edit: oh my only gripe with this movie is that the trailers play constantly on tv(or at least comedy central).

I saw this a few months ago and would definitely recommend it to anyone that likes fast action films. Liam Neeson gives off an older James Bond vibe that really suits him and any film with Maggie Grace in is worth watching.

There is also a cameo from the lovely Holly Valance.

Yeah this movie was ridiculously kickass, and very unexpectedly so for me since I knew next to nothing about it when I went to see it.

This movie surprised me. Liam Nelson unleashes a continuous wave of brutality throughout the film. It has been a minute since I was last induced into a fit of insane laughter by shock of the amazing asskicking skill Liam reveals in this movie.

Yeah that scene was bullshit but the rest was awesome. Actually, a lot of the things that happen are a bit "ironic." What are the odds that one of the girls they kidnap is the daughter of an ex super "agent" or whatever.

The action was very gritty and awesome and I loved how he literally killed or beat the shit out of everyone no matter their affiliation. I bet if a little girl walked past him he still would have beat the shit out of her too.

The same odds of any other girl being kidnapped.

I thought that the sex trade targets girls from third world countries for the specifc reasons that:

    A) They have little to no money and are more likely to be tricked into believing they are going to another country to work at a high-paying job.
    B) They are less likely to be missed if they end up missing.
    C) In the event that the family of the girl does raise a ruckus, they are likely also low-income and would not have the financial means to maintain a thorough, extensive search for the girl, along with the requisite media exposure, flyers, rewards, etc.

An American girl, in comparison would pose a greater risk, ex-CIA father or otherwise. Also, the brothel scene located at the construction site...come on. Even allowing for a large number of police to be corrupt, there is no way an operation that blatant could last for any length of time. Sex workers are often housed in apartments and offer massage services, etc. out of their living space. It's more discrete, and the pimps keep the girls in the trade by forcing them to pay exorbitant rates on rent, food, etc. Keeping a girl constantly drugged and at a construction site to have sex with countless men is, well....messy and risky on the part of the slave traffickers.

Aside from this, it was an entertaining movie. Although I don't appreciate that they toned down the torture scene. I went into this film expecting to see someone's kneecaps get fucked up.

Ok, sure. I agree with that. But American girls get taken for the sex industry too and the odds of the girl they targeted being the daughter of a CIA agent would be the same as any other girl being taken(if we don't include the millions of variables).

Liam Neeson is a proper dude, played a great role in this film. The casting was simply brilliant! 9/10 from my leg!
