i was disappointed when mr bennett said his name was "noah" (but it did grow on me)
he was a better character when he was just called "bennett" or "HRG"
calling him the man in black, jacob's nemesis, evilocke -- or, in the actual characters' cases, just locke -- is fine for that character. certainly for now, maybe for good.

Seriously, how are you a writer and not understanding this. It doesn't matter if the things we call him "fit the character." The problem is the natural human tendency when we are introduced things is to give them names. In the case of people, we typically ask.
NO ONE HAS EVEN FUCKING ASKED THAT QUESTION. Much less shown any interest and finding out what its name is.
They walk in, see "Locke" turn into black smoke, talk amongst themselves for 2 seconds, and say "Ok, let's follow this guy." How does that seem even REMOTELY human to you, Gwahir, you fucking fanboy waterhead?

Sorry gwahir, but you're really clutching at straws now. Nobody's asking ""why can't you leave the island, why do you want to, and what are you going to do once you do?" because a) they're willing to accept that, knowing that he's not human and b) they're (mostly) far too obsessed with leaving the island themselves. The point is they should have at least addressed his lack of a name but they haven't because it's a lazy way to add 'mystery' to a character. They could have easily shown someone asking him his name and him saying "it's not important" or "you'll find that out when the time is right" or something eually useful but they didn't. They just left the idea out as which dehumanizes the rest of the characters because they don't act like characters should do in these situations. Your other points are just flippant attempts to defend the laziness.
But you're right, it's LOST, it's what they do and it's an entertaining enough show so that I don't care enough about the naming fiasco. Just take a deep breath and acknowledge shitty aspects when they're mentioned.

if flocke knew that they would shut him out and take the sub, and let them do this because he wanted to kill them all, how could he have known that kate would get shot, leading to jack getting on too?
maybe he had another way to kill jack -- or was just prepared to cut his losses and get rid of all of them except him?
Do you think Widmore actually planted the C4 on the plane too or did Fake Locke rig the plane up with C4 just in case the survivors tried to leave without him? Because when Widmore threw the survivors in the cages, it sounded like he wanted to protect them, not kill them. And I don't think the C4 was meant to kill Fake Locke because it's pretty obvious conventional methods won't work against him and I think Widmore would know this. And if Widmore just wanted to destroy the plane, it seems kind of dumb for him to rig up the plane to explode when it's turned on when he could have just simply blown it up.
I actually guessed that Linus and Alpert rigged the plane to explode, but EviLocke planting the C4 is just as likely.
As for the whole 'Jack getting on the sub' thing, he could have pushed him in. Or shot Kate himself, as Kate is not a candidate. There were a bunch of ways to get Jack on the sub.
I kinda forgot about Linus and Alpert but I would think that they would just destroy the plane outright. Unless they were really pissed that the others left them...
huh, i never thought any more about who put the C4 there, just took it as read that it was widmore. we may never know.
also, i forgot that jack was, of course, NEEDED on the sub in flocke's plan because he had the C4. yeah, i guess we're to assume that flocke had something up his sleeve (if not the ambush itself) to get jack in there, or see it as a plot hole. either way.
Erm if they can't kill flocke wouldn't he have been able to get on the sub with them, blow it up and survive anyway? Same about the plane? Or am I missing something on that level?

He can get them to fight each other and kill each other off. Jacob took a hands-off approach to their conflict. The Man in Black doesn't. But they have rules. Just as Widmore and Ben had rules.
I don't need a name for the Man in Black, though. I'm not sure why you do. I just associate his name like the X-Files' Smoking Man. It's what they call him. It's what I call him. In the larger context of the show, I don't need to be like "Oh, that's Gabriel" or whatever, it's more ominous and serves the purpose of the narrative if he doesn't have a name.
Although..next week we may get exactly that. There are no season regulars next week.

So because the unnamed character isn't human, we shouldn't expect the other human characters to behave like humans?
The reason we accept the other unanswered questions is because they are fundamental mysteries of the show. The name of a character isn't a fundamental mystery and, oh by the way, we're discussing the character enough to need to refer to him as SOMETHING.
And as far as the C4 on the plane, I think it's pretty clear that even Lost's writers haven't stooped so low as to have Locke planting it on the plane. I think Linus/Alpert makes more sense. I agree that it looks like Widmore was trying to protect the survivors from Locke.
I think Locke knew the plane was wired, but to say he did it would make the scene with him finding the explosives altogether unnecessary. I'm glad they put the damn idea of them getting off the island via plane to rest though.
If Frank is dead his character will have amounted to no more than a series of one-liners for the past 13 episodes.

widmore was definitely trying to protect the survivors. he still may have planted the C4, though, as a backup precaution for if smokey DID get through the candidates and found his way to the plane. of course it wouldn't kill smokey, but it would destroy his means of leaving.
also, with the sub blowed up, i'm not sure how anyone'll leave the island EXCEPT for the plane. and without frank... well, good luck.

They didn't show him or the sub captain at all. Wouldn't surprise me if they both made it out and appear for a last-minute save.

New, groundless theory:
All the candidates are reincarnated version of the original island inhabitants, brought to the Island. The flash-sideways is actually the next iteration of the island folks, and the 'bleeding' is just memories from their past lives.
Tons of holes in this theory, no conclusive evidence, but I like it.
