jesus christ how did the losties not kill him sooner
Well, he's better than nikki and paulo.
Actually, that's true, a lot of people hated Nikki and Paulo, and it's not that I didn't them, they were sorta just thrown out at us. As opposed to Frogurt where a lot of the LOST community saw him once and kinda just wanted to see him again.
Well I kinda liked the Niki and Paulo bit. Their episode was cute and funny and as characters they weren't horrible and obnoxious and you never wanted them to, say, get hit in the chest with a flaming arrow.
If I had seen that little chapter with Frogurt and Hurley before I saw 5x02 I would have said "gee I hope he gets hit in the chest with a flaming arrow at some point".
On an unrelated note (well this is a Lost thread, so), what do you think Ben pulled from the vent before Jack walked in looking for his pills?
It's at about 10m45s.
Looks like a large book of some kind, wrapped in a blanket.
I think it's something we couldn't possibly predict.
Or that book of Laws.
P.S. John really needs to stop getting himself shot.
Also, funny how Wickywax and Madame Hawking both dramatically growl "God help us all". Wickywax says it to Random Dharma Worker about the energy beneath the Orchid, and Hawking says it about Ben not getting them back within 72 hours.
Yes, I also noted that upon my second viewing.
Well that was certainly an interesting turn of events.
Who knew Charles Widmore had been on the island, and was an other.
This episode also confirmed that RICHARD ALPERT is NOT a time traveler.
Juliet said... "He's old"
So that's why he met Locke when Locke was a kid and showed him those three items? I thought you couldn't change things. I don't really get what's going on with "Ricardo"
Uh, if it's a time loop then nothing changed. If we're coming into the show at a bizarre interval in the time loop - which has been hinted at, as Ben was shocked when Alex was killed - due to Desmond's unexpected presence, then all of the events so far would have actually transpired and we're just coming in at the X iteration of events.
I do think that's true, and that Desmond changed everything. History is being re-written because of Desmond for reasons unknown.
To expand:
The Island is stuck in a time loop where everything repeats ad nauseum. That's why Ben seems to know everything that will happen and how to play everyone - he knows about the time loop. But Desmond coming to the island changed 'the rules' of the game by saving Charlie enough times to put off his OWN death in the Looking Glass, which enables the Oceanic Six to escape. As the Island is in a time loop, it cannot exist without the Oceanic Six on there, so it constantly reverts - becoming unstuck in time, because it lacks a constant, those being the Oceanic people.
But Desmond changed everything by viewing the future and enabling an alternate future, this unhinging the Island
I think the danger Penny is in is being killed by Ben whose in L.A if I recall.
I figured that meant he remembers meeting Locke that first time and knows that it'll be the "next time" they meet (from Locke's perspective). Also, Juliet may only think he's old because of his time travelling trickery.
It has confirmed nothing about Richard in my opinion; it has, however, made the non-time-travel, ageless Richard option more likely.
I like Mal's idea.
I have a feeling he's like a bad guy now and that Locke giving him that compass thing completes some sort of puzzle he was working on. I dunno, I'm just thinking about it.
Ms. Hawking is Elle from last episode, and, in turn, also Faraday's mother... any takes?
I kinda thought she was Faraday's mother already but I'm not sure. Who's Elle? The girl who had Daniel at gunpoint? It would make sense because of the whole "You remind me of someone" thing, but, again... I just don't know...
Mmm. Yeah... maybe. Maybe. It does feel a tad cheap to me, though.
What would be even cheaper is if Elie got pregnant with young Charles Widmore's baby, making Penny and Daniel brother and sister. I already figured Marvin Candle's kid is Miles, which leaves me to figure out just who Charlotte is. I still say Ben and Annie's baby. That makes the 3 important freighter people all people who are connected to the Island.
Why would Charlotte be Ben's child? He did try to kill her.
Whoa these theories are interesting. I'd already had suspicions about Mrs. Hawking being Faraday's mother, but the rest of it is all new to me.
Not if he knew she was wearing a bullet proof vest via the time-loop.
It's really not that much of a stretch. The only time we've seen Ben perturbed is when Alex got shot. And that's because he did not know it was going to happen, because it had never unfolded that way before.
Why wasn't Richard seemingly aware of the time traveling properties of the island?
Could be that it was a Richard who, in Richard's timeline, hadn't yet met Locke.
I think the ageless thing is right, I'm just not ruling out time-travel, and I don't consider anything confirmed.
Yes, it's just theory until it's cannon.
Surely she has to be Penny's mother. If not, they picked an actress who looks a lot like Penny unnecessarily.
And I hope everyone has read Slaughterhouse 5 by Kurt Vonnegut. A lot of the general ideas about time travel are taken from there. And it's an amazing book.
My favorite of Vonnegut's.
*sigh of relief*
