I could go on about how much I loved this film, but let me describe the atmosphere. It was absolutely fucking perfect; not a gaggle of texting, chatty ass thirteen year old girls in sight. Everyone who came to the 10 pm showing at least was interested in the film, if not a fan of the graphic novel itself.

That being said, I really did enjoy the film. If I had read the graphic novel, I'm sure I could bash it all day long, but I didn't. I also agree with cap'n, Rorschach was such a great character.

I heard that it was simply visual eye-candy more than a quality narrative which is quite the opposite of what Watchmen should be.

    TOGS, it was.

There was a lot of needless disgusting gore, as well. Much of it had a point, much was gratuitous.

    It was pretty whatever.

It's funny because I was watching an interview and one of the actors was like "It's very adult, but without being gratuitously so".

I have very little back story to the whole Watchmen Universe but I loved this movie. It felt just right.

Though there was a little to much unnecessary blue man penis.

I don't want to see only because of the trailer saying "From the visionary director of 300". Anyone can use slow-mo and make everything look orange and brown. I liked 300, but it wasn't that good, so I am sure this movie isn't that good either. I'll wait for a DVD release.

Unlike 300, The Watchmen was not over-stylized. I thought it was a great movie except that it was way too long. No film should be 163 minutes and not have an intermission.

He still is no visionary. I'll still wait for DVD cause I don't feel like spending 11 bucks on a ticket.

Wait, there was a scene where Nite Owl's ass is shown thrusting and you're complaining about the gore? Regardless they should have just changed the story and cut some characters so the movie could be almost entirely about the Comedian.

For the record, real sex is not pretty. It is a lot of awkward, awkward thrusting and grunting. And then a flame thrower goes off.

Why did they feel the need to have Rorschach 'meat-cleaver' someone to death? I haven't read the novel in a long time but I seem to remember that the kidnapper's demise was slightly less gory in the comic.

All things considered, I thought it was a fairly good adaptation from comic to movie. One of the reasons I went to see it was because I wanted to see how they would do it, and I was pleasantly surprised especially considering I went in with low expectations because of 300.

I really liked the choice of music in the movie. It was an interesting choice of songs, but somehow they always felt appropriate in the scenes they were used in.

If I remember correctly he gave the handcuffed guy a saw and set the house on fire. I might be wrong though.

    You're right.

In David Hayter's version of the script, he feeds the guy to his dogs then kills his dogs.

Loved the movie. My favorite part of the movie, though I'm embarrassed to say it, is during the prison scene when Rorschach is confronted by that big black guy. When Rorschach grabs that huge vat of hot oil and pours it all over him, I could not help but think of fried chicken. I wouldn't consider myself a racist, but that scene was fucking hilarious.

Stop taking the media so seriously, laughing at stereotypes does not make you a racists.

Speaking of Rorschach, he was by far my favorite character and I felt Jackie Earle Haley did an outstanding job of looking truly disturbed with out the rorschach mask on.

They really didn't change too much about the book, and the changes, I thought, suited the film medium very well. Some stuff wouldn't have worked on the silver screen. The death of the child murderer needed to be more immediate and visceral, and the changed ending was perfect. The one from the GN just would not have worked. At all.

Movie was cool, but wtf. When I was done I was like "so how is it that all the costumed people in that movie got super strength?" Then I asked someone who actually read the comics and was told only Manhattan had any powers, but that clearly makes no sense. They could all take ridiculous beatings and beat the shit out of concrete walls and be fine. Assuming they do all have super strength and the ability to withstand tons of damage, then the movie is awesome. If they are supposed to be regular people, then that's just stupid as hell because they clearly aren't. No matter how much training someone has, they're still just human.

In the GN they were all very, very skilled martial artists, but the only people who were exceptionally strong were the Comedian, who was a body-builder gun-nut
    Spoiler
. Everyone else was just well trained. Rorschach in street combat, Nite Own and SSII in various forms of Tae-Kwan-Do.

Ozzy/Veidt was so strong because he, next to Dr. Manhattan, was the only person to have a real 'super' power, and his was complete control over every aspect of his body due to his hyper-intelligence. That's what made him so strong, fast, and capable of catching a bullet - he could calculate, in an instant, the trajectory, speed, and movement of the bullet fast enough to catch it as the gun was firing.

That is all. They were not super people - SSII and Nite Own didn't pick anyone up. Ozzy and Comedian did, but they were strength trained. Dr. M, I mean, he is a super hero.

The only problem that I had with the movie, was that they shortened a lot of the scenes that I thought were pivotal to the character development of some of the characters. For instance, the in-depth psychiatry scenes with Rorschach, which included one of my favorite speeches in the GN. The sex scene I felt was a little unneccesary considering they sped through the scenes of Dr.Manhattan and Janey Slater. Also, the ending kind of annoyed me, I was really hoping that they would have left the ending intact from the GN. I'm not quite sure what the point of making Nite Owl witness
    Spoiler
was. The scene on Mars was really dumbed down too. I enjoyed the movie, I'm guessing the longer cut of the movie will include most of what I've complained about.

Also, was I the only one impressed with how well The Comedian was done?

They had Nite Owl watch Rorschach die because they were partners for 10+ years before the events in the movie, and in the GN, no one really knows or cares that Rorschach dies. It was to give his death meaning to someone.

    Spoiler tags people?

I mean, I'm not personally bothered, wikipedia ruins enough movies for me anyway and this film looks like a pile of horseshit (like virtually every comic book movie) but common courtesy would be a plus.

My only real complaint was the overuse of Nixon. I think the actor was trying to do his worse Nixon impression.

(Okay I have other complaints about the movie.)

The movie was good. Sure it was gorey, but who cares? Sure they changed the end, but the effect and the outcomes were all the same. What people fail to realize is that to reduce Watchmen to even 2 hours 40 minutes and have it not being a steaming piece of dog crap is damn impressive on its own. If you want the GN exactly like the GN was then read the GN. Concessions must be made for the transition of media and I for one think Snyder did a damn fine job.

Oh yeah, and complaining about the realism? Of a comic book movie? Really? It's not realistic that people can be as strong as the Watchmen are? For one, it is (none of them who didn't actually have a super power did anything that couldn't be done with normal human strength potential and a strong knowledge martial arts and the human body); and, for two, it is a movie, not a documentary.
