Thread: Paranormal Activity

After hearing good things about this movie, I decided to take a look.

While there were some generally spooky parts, overall I wasn't impressed. I hated Katie's character. Her acting was contrived and I just found her completely obnoxious. After a while, I just wanted it to be over.

Also, how the hell can two people living together, one being a student and one being an "inside trader" have a beautiful huge house like that? Stupid shit like that completely draws my attention away from the plot.

The version I saw had the original ending tacked on.

Katie gets up, stares at Micah for a while, then goes downstairs and screams. He runs after her, and she suddenly comes back upstairs with blood on her stomach and a knife in her hand. She then sits by her bed, clutching the knife and rocking back and forth. The next day she's still sitting there, receives phone messages, her friend even stops by. Seeing Micah's presumed body, the friend screams and runs out. Hours later the police arrive, all the while Katie still sits there rocking back and forth. The police come upstairs, see Katie, who snaps out of her trance, asking for Micah. The police see her wielding a knife and running at them, so they shoot her in self defense. End! "In memory of Micah and Katie."

Not scary. Anti-climactic.

The original ending was better.

Whoever edited the trailer is a dumbfuck because the part where Micah's body comes flying at the camera was in the cut of the trailer. So anyone that has seen the trailer was expecting something to fly out from the doorway.

Overall, I'd give this movie a 4/10 for great sound design and some generally creepy parts. Otherwise, I could have gone on with my life without ever seeing it. I personally liked Blair Witch Project much better because of its ambiguity, the acting, and the originality.
