Default The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (or HHGG, H2G2, HHGTTG)

I had never heard of it before the movie. I watched the movie and I liked it. The other day I was in the book store and had picked up the Ultimate guide up several times before this visit and put it back. This time I said what do I have to lose? I want to read it. I have some time on my hands (Healing from surgery) so I bought it. It had a lot of exciting bits where the exciting bits were and a lot of boring bits where the boring bits were. I thought the first two books were the best.

    What the hell is HHGG?

Oh. Haven't gotten around to watching/reading it.

There are rather high doubts that I will.

The movie sucked absolute balls. The 80s TV show was great but it looks a little dated now.

The books are amazing but there are quite a lot of boring bits. I think the fifth book was my fave because you realise that all the 'random' nonsense from the other books isn't random at all, and is reused somewhere.

Uh, I loved the movie. I showed up to the premiere in a bathrobe with a towel. Also, I love Zooey Deschanel, so that's always a plus.

Then I beg you if you use firefox to download the Hyperwords addon. You just highlight a word and then a fly out pops up where you can search google or people or definitions and many other things. It's hands down the best addon I've seen besides adblock.

I read the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy in elementary school and loved it. Later in high school I re-read it as well as three (of the five) other books in the "trilogy". I still need to read Mostly Harmless. If you liked the first book I would recommend reading the whole collection.

I enjoyed the movie for what it's worth. There is obviously no way the movie could incorporate every aspect of the book but I did find it fairly entertaining and in the same spirit as the books. I think Douglas Adams would be proud.

That'd annoy me because I copy and paste for a lot of the things I do.

My biggest problem with the movie was that they tried to cut down the jokes that were in the book. They'd deliver a punchline without setting the joke up, or set up the joke without delivering the punchline. This happened quite a few times.

The casting for the film was just about perfect, however.

I couldn't help read the book with their voices though.

I don't think the marvin in the film was anywhere near as good as the series.

I enjoyed the film I guess... wasn't amazing and the book deserved better, but still pretty good.

Also acronyms are pretty annoying unless they're clearly well-known.

Seemed to be a pretty good representation to me. The description didn't match the look in the movie though. He wasn't white in the book.

Fuck, I'm an avid fan and I still didn't know what HHGG was until I opened the thread. Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy doesn't have a widely recognizable acronym associated with it like Lord of the Rings (LotR) does.

The film was terrible I thought. Alan Rickman was a good choice for Marvins voice but the way he looked detracted far too much from that.
Another annoying thing was Zaphods heads. One in the neck just didn't work, and also closed off allot of the book for them.

I agree with the head in the neck. In the book he had two necks with two heads. Cut him out of being a bird cage on one of them. Also "Restaurant at the end of the universe" I was quite amused that it wasn't a restaurant at the edge of the universe.

Oh shi- he's not fucking white. What ever will I do :'(

But I have to read the book for school, then watch the movie for an analytical paper. Should be pleasant, I enjoyed the movie so I should (hopefully?) enjoy the book more? Oh, and the 6th book is coming out in 2009.

After I posted I realized it was more appropriate to put h2g2 but since we can't alter our own topics...
