Cool Former Marine sets world record for holding longest plank

    http://www.dietsinreview.com/diet_co...longest-plank/

Sometimes, you think you’ve seen it all, and then, someone comes out of nowhere and amazes you. Someone goes above and beyond the normal and does something like, say, set a new world’s record for fitness.

Former Marine George Hood is that person.

Hood has recently set a new Guinness World’s Record for holding a plank for 1 hour, 20 minutes and 5.01 seconds. The 53-year old also has set Guinness World Records in endurance for jumping rope and spin cycling. His planking record is officially notated as the Static Abdominal Hold and blew away the former record by almost 30 minutes.

I can’t even fathom those numbers. I’m super impressed by what he’s accomplished. Hood first added planks to his fitness regimen to strengthen himself in an effort to surpass his spin cycling record. In doing so, he set another record, although that wasn’t his original intent.

I know a lot about planking. I do it every day, and have discovered multiple variations of the position. My abs, should I ever decided to uncover the layer of padding that protects them, are solid and strong. I wasn’t always this way, however. A long time ago, my midsection was round and puffy. I worked hard and struggled and eventually, I challenged myself with planks.

If you have a lot of weight to lose, the reality of holding plank for even one minute might overwhelm you.

Maybe you made a New Year’s resolution and you are struggling. Take heart. Work just a little bit harder each and every day and you will succeed. Start small, just like every aspect of weight loss. You, too, can surprise yourself and everyone around you with the strength that you have and what you can accomplish.

Not every one of us can set a Guinness World’s Record. Most of us will never get anywhere near one but we can all work as hard as we can to get to be the very best we can be.
I like a good burnout seeing how far I can go, but this guy doing an hour and twenty minutes of being in the plank position is really awesome. I'm thinking there are probably other people who can already break this record, and maybe this is me just being overly confident, but I bet I can do that [someday]. I wonder what state of mind he was in before he decided to stop.

I remember our Drill Sargent pushed us beyond what we thought we could accomplish all the time. Once we did 400 4 count jumping jacks. Nothing like the motivation of a 6' 5" 250lbs lean black man calling your mother a whore.

Way back in '03, our Platoon Sergeant told us we'd be up to 800 4-count jumping jacks before we left Iraq. We did. Even now I can do 100+ with no problem at a moment's notice.
