Probably one of the most common misconceptions in muscle building. It falls into the same category as the whole idea that you can pinpoint burning fat to a certain area of the body. You can't...there is no such thing as spot reduction. You should not change your weight workouts in any way during a cutting phase. You simply need to increase your cardio and decrease your calorie intake. Changing up your weight workout to lighter weights with more reps will just cause you to burn more muscle tissue along with the fat, and that isn't what you want to burn.
