    Default Motivation

So, I know we have a topic discussing goals, but how do you guys reach your goals. If you're like me, your workout is tough, and challenges you. I'm just wondering how you guys motivate yourself to push through the pain and finish. My motivation used to just be personal well being, but now that I am thinking of enlisting I push myself harder and everytime I feel like quitting I tell myself "Well, this is what it takes to be a Marine." I also use that pretty much every time I don't want to do something. Like for instance eating salads. I fucking hate salads. They just aren't my thing, but part of my fitness regimen is eating a salad every night with dinner. So I just tell myself "This is what it takes." I was just wondering how you guys motivate yourself to do things when you really don't want to.

Whenever I'm feeling down about what I'm doing I write about it. I tell myself why I'm doing it and how I'll be better for keeping with it.

If I know that what I'm trying to do is the right thing and there comes a moment where I think to myself, "ok I'll skip just today," then at that moment I start convincing myself that not only should I not skip, but that continuing on at that point is more important than anything I've done so far. Making yourself do it when you really don't want to will only make you stronger.

I just think about how much weight I gained when I got to college and how bad I looked. I like looking better and feeling better now that I'm healthier. And any pain I feel during a workout I just push through. I just have that athlete's mentality where you fight through any pain you feel.

When I'm feeling the pain, I tell myself that if I stop, everything I've been doing for the last however long will have been useless.

When I'm not feeling the pain, it's hard for me to keep going, because it feels like the workout has been achieving nothing.

EDIT: That said, I haven't been working out at all for the past month or so.

To be totally honest, I like to look at myself in the mirror. That's what motivates me to keep pushing.

Needless to say my gym has plenty of eye candy that keeps me going. That's my motivation.

Yeah this too. After having lost so much weight looking at myself in the mirror now is like seeing a brand new person. I'm sure that feeling will fade at some point and I'll get used to it, not for a while though considering I still have weight to lose.
