Default Suggestions for exercise and diet?

I've never really had a routine or anything. I'm looking for info on what to and what not to do when working out. And also a good diet plan to lose some weight.
You guys have any suggestions? What works best?
If size is an issue I'm 5'9" 215lbs.

    Thanks.

Do a lot of cardio, don't eat junk food. That's pretty much it.

If you want to drop weight fast follow the Gracie diet:
    http://www.graciemiami.com/graciediet.htm
Also it doesn't say it on there, but multiply what you want to weigh by 14 and thats how many calories a day you should eat a day. Add 30% to that on days you work out muscles(cardio alone doesn't count). This diet is made for fighters trying to cut weight quickly for a weigh in, so if you follow it correctly you should lose a lot of weight fast.

Cardio, lots of cardio, but also involve some weights. Nothing too major, but some work with dumbells will tone your flabby skin up and develop your muscles further.

Also avoid high calories, high fat, and high carbs. Everything in moderation really is the key, don't intake too much salt or sugar either. Home cooked food is healthier than already prepared food. Avoid seasonings that have salt in them, instead opt for herbs and spices with no salt at all.

As far as cardio, walking is not a enough, and neither is jogging. Do a mixture. Powerwalking, then sprint, then just walk, then jog, and vice versa. Get your heart beating, get your entire body working, and your bloody flowing.

    Thanks for the replies.
So I'm at college right now, and all the food is shitty and what not. No information on calories and what not.
Is there any way to judge calories at all based on sight or anything? I know there probably isn't, but mayber there's a general rule of thumb or something.

    Thanks again.

What you should do is develop a good weight routine. That's key to weight loss and keeping it off. Cardio can help burn off some calories quick, but when you stop doing cardio, you'll start gaining weight back just as fast. Add muscle to speed up your metabolism. Strength training has many benefits.

The most crucial part to seeing results will be the diet though. Being in college, you are going to have to use some common sense and judgement. Stay away from the fried foods, and other sugary junk food. Start eating salads instead of french fries, use light dressing. Most colleges offer a vegetarian alternative, you may want to look into that. While I advocate eating red meat, chances are your college won't regularly offer an 8 oz piece to you. The veggie diet will take away the fried chicken and hot dogs and burgers your college does offer and give you something in return (fish, tofo, something...). I'd also emphasize drinking water, and lots of it. Cut out the soda/pop & juices, and just drink water. For more than the filling reason, a sufficiently large water intake will help you lose weight.

Don't underestimate cardio for keeping weight off. If you keep a cardio routine going long enough your body will adjust and start burning more calories throughout the day in preparation for the upcoming cardio. Of course, this also means you will eventually plateau if you don't regularly increase your intensity, but just so long as you can do that it should continue to yield results. When I lost all my weight I didn't even start weight training until I was already down 150 pounds.

I do agree with Tekk on most of his diet points though. I cut out flavored beverages and it had an immediate effect on everything. Burgers aren't that bad for you all things considered, especially if you eat them at some point before you do your daily workout. Hot dogs and fried foods are no-nos, but don't expect yourself to quit cold turkey either. Transforming your body is a slow process. It is important not to get discouraged and to not deny yourself either. Giving in to an indulgence every now and then is better than ignoring them until you can't take it any more and gorging.

One more thing. Since you are in college, don't drink beer. Liquor is not good for your metabolism either, but it doesn't come with all the empty carbs that beer does. So, if you wanna party, do it with liquor.

Default Suggestions for exercise and diet

I bought the new Cardio Max DVD and tried it this morning, I really like it. I didnt get the other new one because I didnt know what kind of equipment I would have to buy to go along with it. If anyone has already tried it then please let me know if any other workout equipment is needed.

Just remember, cardio compliments diet. Diet does not compliment cardio. You will be shocked when you see how much weight you can lose with a well constructed diet.

(yeah I know a little late lol)
