    Default Physical Fitness Test tomorrow

So, I have a PT test tomorrow.

I am preparing tonight with beer. I seem to do better after drinking oftentimes, and honestly, my PT has been slack since coming to Louisiana, so at least I can drink until I feel invincible and pass out. Just kidding about that (the pass out part), in a few minutes I will be preparing a light dinner and some iced green tea for the morning. The plan is to force hydrate tonight, wake at 0500 or so, hydrate some more and drink a couple cups of tea, then stretch.

I did a surprise diagnostic a month ago and sucked, with only fifty-something pushups and sixty-something situps in two minutes, compared to 70-80-something last year this time. My run was the worst event for me, adding over two minutes to my run time. To be honest, though, it was a last minute test thrown at us right after lunch and during the heat of day; during the run I barely started sweating, which told me I was close to becoming a heat casualty due to lack of acclimation and hydration.

Anyway, I ran yesterday and will use the APFT tomorrow to gauge exactly how weak I have become. A month ago it was hard to do PT with an 8am-8pm schedule many days. Now, with a steady 9-5 schedule I have no excuse not to run. I doubt I will ever get back to my low time of 12:35, but with minimal effort should be able to run in the 14's again within a few months. I found a nice two-mile route, and though I used to enjoy running five to ten miles with my squad a few months ago I now have to run on my own, making a longer distance unfathomable at the moment as I hate running alone. A regimen of pushups and situps will increase my reps on my next APFT (I will check out the threads pertaining to those later) and depending, I may even attempt to work on other exercises. Pullups come to mind as well as systems such as the TRX and other relatively inexpensive yet effective programs. With tendonitis and other injuries, free weights and even machines have become too painful for me to use, so I prefer my own body weight and simple exercises my body has adapted to over the years. As much as I hate doing so, I may even ruck up and start road marching again.

    Thoughts? Suggestions?

Well, done. Only 60 pushups and 57 situps, but I did manage to run 13:26 for the two miles. The track had to be a little short.
