    Default Shaun T. Insanity

I love love love love love this workout series! It's all plyometrics for a combination of cardio, resistance, core balance, and flexibility conditioning. Your legs will be on fire after you finish the day's workout, but man will it feel great! I've seen huge gains in strength, endurance, balance, and jump height. I've been splicing in Ab Ripper X (from the P90X series) on days when I feel like I can make it through after my Insanity workout, as well as Stretch X and Yoga X on off days.

Beachbody's line in general is all awesome. Has anybody else ever tried it? If not, I suggest you give it a look. It'll take some strong joints and legs to be able to even begin Insanity, so it isn't for people just starting into fitness, but damn is it fun if you're ready for it!

[I know I sound like a commercial, but yeah fuck you]

    Will check it out.

Would you recommend cardio on the treadmill?

    Thanks.

I have not tried Insanity or p90x. I have a friend who is pretty athletic currently doing p90 but I am not sure if he is still going with it. The only reason I have not tried it is because I feel like it is more for endurance. Basically, I feel like it does not aid me in my overall goals (bodybuilding).

Don't get me wrong, I have seen some crazy transformations from these workouts. If you are a beginner or even intermediate level in regards to working out I am sure you would get good results from these.

I wouldn't exactly call bodybuilding 'advanced' working out. I know plenty of bodybuilders who are useless for any practical workout. Anybody with enough time and inclination can train themselves to lift really heavy stuff. Circuit training is way more advanced than any of that.

I wasn't referring bodybuilding as advanced working out. What I meant was someone who is an advanced bodybuilder will not get nearly as much out of the program as someone who just started. I know these programs work more than just muscles. What I was getting at, and was not clear at all on, is that someone who has different goals and is already an advanced bodybuilder will gain little to nothing doing this program to increase muscle mass.

But in any case, I absolutely give credit to these type of workouts and the people who bust their asses doing them because regardless who they are aimed for, a lot of people do make astounding transformations doing these programs.

    bump

I started doing Insanity with a friend yesterday and it's fucking intense for the two of us (both way out of shape). I'm in a fitness class at school (basically just work out at the gym). Today I did Insanity and then an hour later went to my fitness class. That's what killed me. I can hardly walk now.

I'll post progress pictures after 1 month if anyone is interested.

I remember reading about Insanity in some magazine a while ago. Said some really positive things about it, but then said some crazy things about people doing it too much they break themselves. I might try it.

Try doing a ton of stretches after the workout. They help keep muscles from getting sore.

there's stretching right after the warm up and then stretching for the cool down. I might try some more though if you think it'll help.

It's controversial whether stretching actually helps.

Naturally, you're more sore when you're out of shape. You should be less sore as you continue the workouts.

Agreed with mutton. There are many people with many opinions on static vs dynamic vs no stretching at all. Personally I do very little stretching, but I will focus on common pain points that I encounter. I think what's generally important is first reaching some level of comfortability (for instance, where every work out does not feel like death) and then figuring out what works best for you. Everything else seems pretty anecdotal

I thought stretching was good for improving flexibility and being flexible was a good thing.

So, if you're playing slamball or believe things you read on wikipedia that aren't cited then that might not be 100% correct. On the other hand, it's possible that it's 100% correct.

Update: I'm almost done with the first month. I haven't lost any weight or inches but I feel a lot stronger. I'm hardly ever sore from working out now.
