Default Whats's your guys input on daily vitamins?

I run 3 miles every night. About to start hitting weights early in the morning.

    I currently take:

Vitamin C - Chewables. Noticed I don't get sick nor cough. Been about 6 months.

Vitamin E - I have some minor acne scars that I want to fade away.

Omega Fish Oil - Heart Healthy.

    What do you guys think?

Are you asking what vitamins everyone here takes? Sorry it's about 3am and I am easily confused

    http://www.optimen.com/

Tastes kinda shitty but cheaper than animal paks (fairly expensive, tastes like hell and seriously like 6 pills per dose with two doses per day).

    I am pro-vitamins, personally.

Also, those are some puny supplements, but three miles and some beginning weight lifting probably doesn't call for anything more severe.

No one needs to take any supplements in order to get in shape.

Protein powder, creatine, whatever else are all just a big racket. Unless you are a top tier pro-athlete, you don't need any more protein than what you get out of food.

All-natural peanut butter and the like can be your "protein supplement."

Special vitamins or whatever won't do shit for you.

Now in terms of taking vitamin pills in general, I don't know. Most physicians still recommend them, but in research there's doubts as to how well the micronutrients from vitamin pills get absorbed from the body. Some research suggests that really you need to get micronutrients out of regular foods for your body to absorb them properly.

Still... I'll probably take vitamins anyway. I keep forgetting to take one in the morning...

Sycld I respectfully disagree with your analysis. While you don't need those things to get into shape, they help. Source: Best friend is a personal trainer and I lost 200 pounds.

Also, no one gets all of every vitamin they need from their everyday diet. It's true that you don't absorb anywhere near all of the nutrients in vitamin supplements, that's why each pill has like 2000% of our daily value of everything.

You also don't need a gastric bypass to lose weight but people get them (I just read a reddit post about a girl who got a gastric bypass in her early twenties, average height and 235 lbs. and I about died of shock). Having used both protein powders (meal replacement, with vegetables and limited fruit rounding out the meal) and creatine-containing suppliments (no-xplode, superpump 250), I hate not using them. I can get ~double the results with an equivalent amount of effort, and (afaik) I'm not doing any damage to my body. The fat-loss stuff is a racket, simply because most of those products are of the type "hey take this and sit on your ass and you'll lose weight", whereas creatine and other suppliments are designed to be used with actual activity, no one tells you you'll bulk up with protein powder and creatine alone, you have to lift. Plus, the market for weight-loss solutions is absurd, if we were a nation of weak skinny fucks wanting to get ripped the muscle-gain supplement market would probably be just as bad as the weight loss industry is now (except the women would still all be stupid and think that lifting three times a week will turn them into a testosterone-injected body builder and run away).

sponge whats the level of effort involved in either of those creatine supplements?

I dont have time to take 8 doses and drink 3 gallons of water a day. Also, what happens when you go off creatine?

All I've ever used was whey protein simply because I didnt ever want to be serious enough about it but now I am willing to give it a try for a few months and just avoid talking about it. There isnt a douchier conversation than meatheads and supplements.

Also I'm in it for the superficial reasons I am 100% confident I am as strong as I need to be for any practical application.

If drinking a gallon or two of water every day is too time consuming I think you are drinking wrong.

You mix one serving with water and chug like 30-45 minutes before you intend to start working out. It's best (according to the bottle and my experience) to take it on an empty stomach which is easily the most inconvenient part of the whole experience. It makes me go through more water at the gym (where there are loads of water fountains and I carry a liter nalgene bottle) but I don't drink noticeably more than normal otherwise.

Only real downside was one night I got really drunk at a party we were throwing and drank like 4 doses of the stuff mixed with beer and my extremities were tingly the next day.

oh and when you get off it nothing happens aside from gaining muscle goes back to its original level of difficulty

I suppose if you used something like no-xplode (which I'd recommend many times over the regular creatine tablets) you might develop a caffeine dependency but I've been on and off quite a few cycles and I don't notice anything

So I looked into it and I really don't like the fact that they don't publish the contents. "Proprietary blend" sounds sketchy. I know a lot of popular supplements do that, but that doesn't make it better.

I haven't decided if I'm going to try no-xplode or if I'm going to use something like Omega Ultima in addition to regular creatine monohydrate. I imagine I'll probably try a bottle of no-xplode since it's cheaper than getting both supplements and see if I like it. If I do, I might try Omega the second time around.

I believe vitamins can definitely help you reach your goals if you are trying to gain muscle. I mean as a daily supplement, a multi vitamin is perfectly fine. a lot of people underestimate the power of vitamins. There is something called Animal Pak (which I have not taken) that supposively supports energy and muscle growth for people who are into bodybuilding. I have not actually researched much, but maybe it is something worth checking out.

Just because someone is a personal trainer doesn't make them an expert about human nutrition.

Also, what supplements are you referring to? Specifically I was talking about muscle-building stuff, nothing about weight loss.

How do you know you couldn't get the same results if you had a high protein meal instead of a protein powder shake meal substitute?

Taking protein powders gives you more protein than you could possibly need.

As for creatine... I take back what I said: it looks like it does have some benefit, with the literature showing little risk of adverse side effects for people without specific conditions such as diabetes. However, the one thing that's a little unnerving about creatine supplements is that they are unregulated.

And it's men's fault for making women think that way, perhaps?

Protein powders don't come with the same high levels of fats, sodium and cholesterols as traditional high protein diets do. I haven't really compared the two though, and it wasn't a meal replacement, I was still eating fruits and vegetables at meals with reduced meat and carbs.

So? I wasn't gaining body fat and I was gaining muscle, I don't see the problem.

So are the multivitamins you can buy at walmart. I have heard of supplements with anabolics passing under FDA watch for years.

Doubt it. I can imagine perhaps 50% of the eating disorders are the fault of men (other half being the ferocious critique of young women among themselves), but I don't hear men telling women they shouldn't look toned, and that if they work out, they'll become disgustingly muscular. Our school's D1 women's basketball team has probably the most athletic women on campus, as does the cheer squad. Neither group has disgustingly-muscled women, and I know the cheer squad lifts a ton, and I'm sure the wbb team does the same. The myth that regular weight training will turn one into a body building competitor is a joke.

My take on protein powder is that it should not replace whole foods (such as chicken, red meat, turkey, w.e) but that is not to say you should not use it (I drink a protein shake everyday). It is faster digesting than solid food, clearly. I am sure there is research out there comparing solid food to the protein shake.

I was talking about creatine and vitamin supplements. Also, I don't know how much you know about the ACSM certification exam, but to pass it you do need to be an expert on human nutrition.

    Uh... Yeah, that's not true.

An overgrown monkey could pass that certification. I would hardly defer to any trainer when it comes to longterm macroeffects of dietary choices. Trainers are glorified cheerleaders, and while their cheers are complicated, they aren't intelligent.

I would just like to bump this thread to say that last weekend I was out with some friends and while bored of their company checking out a top-80% young woman

until I got to her barely-defined calves on her otherwise well-toned body when I prompty stopped and began talking shit about them to my friends

then a few days later I met a girl at the gym with the only legs other than mine that I've truly loved in recent memory

so yeah you pretty much got it right although an excessively broad-shouldered (skeletal, without doping I doubt a woman who didn't bodybuild could do it with muscle) woman would probably freak me out
