The first game I can remember beating is Super Mario Bros. 3.
I used both whistles the first time I legit beat it, though. I guess it would be pokemon yellow after that.
The first game I remember beating was Mario 3 also. I have fond memories of beating Turtles in Time also. But honestly I don't finish many games. Either the gameplay has to be super awesome, the story has to yank me in, it has to be pretty short, or I have to have nothing to do. The game I am currently failing to be able to get it up to play all the way through is Final Fantasy XIII.
Honestly, I think I was more capable of focusing my attention on beating games when I was a kid than I am now. I mean not only did I complete games that required you to sit through them from beginning to end with no saves, I also did it multiple times with basically no variations in gameplay. Now when I beat a game the first time I put it aside, even if there are save slots and reasons to replay the game like Mass Effect.
I remember playing some shareware floppy disc games that I got to the ends of on my 486. But they were never the full games, so I don't think they counted. Probably the first game I got from the beginning to end of was Pokemon Blue on my Gameboy Pocket. First full game on the PC would've been Planescape: Torment, I think.
I used to watch my brothers play games more than I played them, myself, I think. Games like Diablo and Half-life would freak me out a bit too much until I was a little older.
Edit: Maybe F Zero X on the N64 could've been my first. I'm not sure. The past is all fuzzy.
Chrono Trigger had multiple endings? I might have to look that game up again.
