    Default First game you beat

Do you remember the first video game you ever beat all the way through?

Mine was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time on SNES. I was probably 8 or 9 when I beat it for the first time. I was so proud of myself. One thing that sucks about the game is you can't save. You have the play the whole game in one sitting. At the time I was really good at playing the first few stages but I had only seen the last couple of stages just a handful of times. When I finally beat Super Shedder at the end I remember jumping around screaming "yes".

I still have the game and I still love it.

It would have been a SNES game, probably something like Street Fighter II or maybe the Power Rangers game I vaguely remember having. I vividly remember beating Aladdin but I doubt that would have been the first game I beat.

The first game system I had was an Atari 2600. You didn't really beat the games in as much as you would try to get a high score. Once you figured out the pattern on pacman you could play it until the cows came home. On Video Pinball I could play one ball and then when I lost it it would calculate score. I could literally lose the ball then go in the kitchen make a sandwich, pour myself some coke then back to the room and finish eating while watching the score flip time and time again.

The first one I beat was on the Nintendo. Legend of Zelda, you might have heard of it. I didn't have a Nintendo at the time, I would play it at my cousins house. We would think of nothing else but that game. Looking at maps, figuring out the tendency of the bosses.

Once my parents got me one I beat Supermario Bros the first day. The video store was down the road from my house and I'd rent game after game and beat them one after the other.

Super Mario Land on Game Boy. I had awful timing and I didn't know you could run through single spaces.

That was the first I beat too, I think.

Also thanks for taking away from my achievement by describing how awful your gaming skills were.

Some of the parts I remember distinctly were the first sphinx boss, the sea horse boss (I think it was a sea horse boss??) and the coins spelling out a message in the underwater level, and the jumping Chinamen closer to the end of the game (even at my tender young age I had some awareness of how these were a sorta stereotyped depiction of Chinese by Japanese).

I can't remember how it ended but I do remember going back to the start screen after it was over and getting, like, some sort of harder difficulty? I don't know if I beat it multiple times in a row, but I think I had at least beaten it twice in a row or something.

The next game I at least can remember beating completely was Sonic the Hedgehog for Game Gear. And by beating completely, I do mean with collecting all the chaos diamonds.

I can't remember which other Sonic games I finished on the Game Gear.

This isn't really relevant, but this brought to mind how distorted was my chronology of gaming system releases.

For a long time I thought the NES was released around like '90 and the SNES around '95. I only learned much later that the NES was released around '82 and the SNES around, like, '90 or '92.

Well, it did take me a long time, so whenever I got to a new level there was a sense of wonder, like at the fast moving desert things. After I managed to beat the game, I beat it again and again. The repeat levels were slightly harder.

I only found out recently that those were supposed to be Chinese hopping zombies, despite always knowing what jiang shi are.

The first Zelda on NES, is what I can remember, but my mom played it with me. By myself? Chrono Trigger(and it's trillion endings), or maybe some throw away game I can't remember.

Either Super Mario 64 or Star Wars: Shadows of The Empire. I beat them around the same time, I was about 8.

I remember beating A Link to the Past with my brother and uncle. That was a year or so before Turtles in Time. But I don't really count it since it was mostly my uncle playing or him telling my brother what to do. I only got to play when my uncle wasn't around (he was incredibly sexist). For an old guy he was surprisingly good. We got every single thing except 1 heart piece. We knew where it was, just not how to get it.

Sonic the Hedgehog for the genesis. We'd had an NES system as well, but i was too young to beat the games we had, but i remember playing a lot of final fantasy and faxanadu.

    probably paper mario

I played loads of games before that but beating them required spans of attention I was unable to muster (the joke is that the game I finally first beat was an rpg loads longer than earlier games I'd given on like super mario world)

I understand where you're coming from. I tend to lose interest in a game half way through even if it's really fun.

    Final Fantasy VII and VIII.

I was just playing 7 again, but I had to sell it for $25 to a store so I could go out and buy insulin I was on the 3rd disk, finishing all the materia masteries and ultimate weapons for the characters I used. Oh well, when I buy it again, I still have my memory card. As a kid when I played it, I got nearly 100% of the game completed, but when I went into the meteor crater, the game would freeze.

Final Fantasy X(or Mystic Quest, if you count that as a Final Fantasy) was the first Final Fantasy I ever beat, but I only started playing the FF series at 7, I've gone back and played a few of the others.

The first game I can remember beating is Super Mario Bros. 3.

I used both whistles the first time I legit beat it, though. I guess it would be pokemon yellow after that.

The first game I clearly remember beating is Mega Man 2, mainly because I don't know how I did it as a kid.

My best guess for the first game I beat would be Super Mario Bros. but honestly who knows

    Cool

Came in here to post Super Mario Brothers for the NES. I think the game came indidividually, but I got it with a cartridge that had both SMB and Duck Hunt. I remember my mom playing Duck Hunt all night and getting so far the levels were no longer listed as numbers.

Other great gaming firsts probably would be the first Genesis game I beat was Sonic the Hedgehog, first N64 game beat would be a tie of Super Mario 64, Goldeneye, or Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, first Playstation game beat would be Spyro or Final Fantasy VII, first PS2 game beat would be Final Fantasy X, first PS3 game beat would be Metal Gear Solid IV, and the first PC game I ever beat would be Oregon Trail

I believe the first game i ever played/beat was Diablo, which im sure came out in 1996. So this is not to get confused with Diablo II its crappy counterpart. Im not a 100% sure but this could be my first game cause i know that the Zelda titles were one of my favorites back then as well.

The first game I remember beating was Mario 3 also. I have fond memories of beating Turtles in Time also. But honestly I don't finish many games. Either the gameplay has to be super awesome, the story has to yank me in, it has to be pretty short, or I have to have nothing to do. The game I am currently failing to be able to get it up to play all the way through is Final Fantasy XIII.

    Those are all optional.

I got everything done except for the very last few marks and the final 2 espers and none of these fights ran longer than half an hour or so.

well yeah, I still beat the game, but I didn't do the 5 hour boss fights. I did the hour long one but realistically you just set your tactics or whatever it was called and leave for an hour.

THIS IS THE DEFINITION OF FUN

Everybody said this, but I liked the gambits. It made their new version of random encounters easy to deal with, as you just needed to run from place to place instead of inputting every friggin command to deal with small monsters. This alone made so much of the game more palatable, to me. It did, somewhat, take away from bossfights as you could theoretically optimize gambits and walk away, but I would really only use gambits to ensure my team was always buffed for whatever tactic I was using (lure, berserk, shell/protect/haste/bravery, bubble, and reverse on one, shell/protect/haste/faith on the casters, or bravery for the ranged) so that they would autorefresh their buffs while I dealt with whatever additional bullshit came into the fights manually.

tl;dr: I liked gambits, fuck da haters

Honestly, I think I was more capable of focusing my attention on beating games when I was a kid than I am now. I mean not only did I complete games that required you to sit through them from beginning to end with no saves, I also did it multiple times with basically no variations in gameplay. Now when I beat a game the first time I put it aside, even if there are save slots and reasons to replay the game like Mass Effect.

I remember playing some shareware floppy disc games that I got to the ends of on my 486. But they were never the full games, so I don't think they counted. Probably the first game I got from the beginning to end of was Pokemon Blue on my Gameboy Pocket. First full game on the PC would've been Planescape: Torment, I think.

I used to watch my brothers play games more than I played them, myself, I think. Games like Diablo and Half-life would freak me out a bit too much until I was a little older.

Edit: Maybe F Zero X on the N64 could've been my first. I'm not sure. The past is all fuzzy.

Chrono Trigger had multiple endings? I might have to look that game up again.

I don't remember the name, it looked like japanese platformer on nes (obviously not Mario) with only 5 levels. Technically, I beat Skyrim if you mean just killing Alduin. If you mean 100% completion then list Slime Rancher. Ever heard of it? Here's a useful link for slime rancher free stuff. I literally gained every item and every achievement in this game. This is my first and only 100% finished game so far and I'm proud of that.
