    Default Wasteland 2 - Fallout 1's dad gets an old-school style sequel.

    From the writers and developers of Fallout 2 and Planescape: Torment, among many others, and with assistance and technology from Obsidian Entertainment, comes an old-school, top-down, isometric cRPG that many have waited 24 years for.

    Wasteland was a post-apocalyptic set cRPG that was released in 1988. Although I never played it personally (I was born in 1989) from my understanding it was game that was well before its time. It practically introduced the idea of making PC gamers (not that there were hardly as many gamers as there are now, with DOS being the main OS) make complex moral decisions where there was no right or wrong or black & white good/evil options.

    Wasteland gained a cult following at the time and the developers wanted to make a sequel a long time ago. Unfortunately the rights to the Wasteland name was owned by Electronic Arts and Wasteland 2 never saw the light of day. Instead, the developers (who went on to found Interplay and Black Isle) produced Fallout 1 & 2, which used a very similar setting.

    With the, massive popularity of Fallout 3, Brian Fargo, founder of the now defunct Interplay, got many of the old Interplay/Black Isle team together and put the idea to publishers about making a sequel to the old game that was faithful to the style of gameplay, dialogue and decision-making Wasteland had. Unfortunately nobody wanted to have anything to do with it so he turned to Kickstarter as a last resort, which has proven successful, with over US$3m made over the month - including paypal donations.

    So if you liked the old D&D cRPGs or Fallout 1 & 2, you're in for a treat!

    Did anyone get in on the Wasteland 2 Kickstarter?

    I spent $30 on that, as it was all I could afford at the time (really wanted an old-fashioned box and cloth map for $65 but it just wasn't meant to be). Once Chris Avellone - one of Planescape: Torment's creators - got in on that shit there was just no way I'd miss out on it.

    I'm also looking forward to Double Fine's new adventure game. Grim Fandango was my favourite game as a child.

    Now just to wait another year and a half (although it'll probably be more like two years) for it to come out. ;___;
