It's a closed beta, you had to be invited to get download it. I would assume it is free since you are in effect a beta tester.

Thats actually pretty depressing. When the Home theme came out for the ps3 it said something about downloading it signed you up for the Beta. Good to know I didn't get in. /depression I've actually been looking forward to Home for a LONG time. Mainly because i want to make a to-scale replica of my house. (Can you build the houses or do you have to buy pre-made ones?)

Lol, remind me to not invite you over to Interweb Decorate my house then. I really hope you can customise, but thinking back on the fact that they have released the dev notes on a couple houses, you probably have to buy pre-made ones. The house w/ the rock wall in it is pretty cool though. Its in this month's Qore

Home is being released to the general public finally tomorrow:
    http://www.thesixthaxis.com/2008/12/...-out-tomorrow/

PlayStation Home is exclusive to PS3, free to download and easy to join. It’s the ultimate online community – a place where you can meet friends, try the latest games, hear new music, watch videos, relax in the apartment of your dreams and much, much more.

It's like Sony realized that they blew it with Blu Ray so now they're trying to jump on the... social sprite networking bandwagon? It's not even a full-featured media console yet. How can they be blowing it this badly?

Huh? How did they blow it with Blu Ray?

And Home has been a feature they're been promoting since console launch 2 years ago. It's not something they just pulled out of their ass.

Because they paid out the ass to make Blu Ray the standard and they are never, ever going to make their money back. Between downloadable content, streaming movies, and Tivo/DVR capabilities, HD libraries will not be built on physical media.

I suspect PS3 is the top-selling Blu Ray player and with Netflix via Xbox Live and Apple TV entering the market as fully-featured HD media centers, not only is PS3 getting blown away in games, sales, and online play, the major justification for the high price tag (HD movie playability) is going to turn out to be more worthless than it already has.

I'll admit I'm trolling some regarding games (though, as I am not an MGS4 fanfag or particularly fond of feature-length cutscenes in my games, I still don't see any PS3 exclusives to refute it), but for everything else the PS3 is supposed to offer, it's a big letdown and a disaster for Sony, especially as we enter recession $35 movies r u fkn srs

The console maker for me was Ratchet and Clank: Future, so I've had my system for around 2 years. A little after launch, I think, maybe 6 months? Between that and the X-box my brother has (which I have a Live account on), I still tend to play the PS3 more. And I fuggin' hate MGS4, and I refuse to buy it. Games like Resistance 2, which don't really get a whole lot of attention, but in my opinion are better than... Bioshock, which I found terrible are what make the system worth playing.

And there is some degree of me sticking by the console because I dished out $500 for it.

Physical Media will always prevail, mainly because most people like to actually have something in their hands if they are paying for it. If Im paying for a movie I want to have a copy on disk. And I know Im not the only one.

This is the type of thinking that screwed Sony.

The sales just aren't there. Their product isn't viewed as a better value than rival physical media, nor is it viewed as the most cost-effective form of HD media. DVDs are still pretty good, HDTVs are just barely out of the early adopter phase, and the next wave has already struck. They blew the market.

I mean it was going to happen with or without the format war. Whoever won was going to need to render their own format obsolete to stay ahead of the curve. This is akin the old Betamax-VHS format war, except imagine duking it out knowing that TiVo would debut a year later.

The first 30 minutes in Home, I was yelled at by a 7 year old who said he could beat me up. Then someone in the Uncharted Bar just started yelling at him. So I left. He also said I looked like a nerd. I guess it's like me to make my online representation of myself look like myself.

I timed out every other time I tried to get in. It was actually a lot of fun from what I fiddled with, and the people were, for the most part, acting like real people, so that was refreshing, not just 'lol internet' fucks.

The new beta is much more refined then the closed beta I was in. More surroundings and the movie theatre actually even shows a movie preview now and a music video to go with it. Too bad it was Twilight but it still gives a pretty cool vibe. The items that were free in the closed beta now cost money which makes me mad because I forgot to download them.

Yeah I bought a turtleneck because I didn't want to look like a massive faggot, but that ended up making me look like more of a faggot.

Well I finally got logged in and as I was like 5 seconds from downloading the central plaza I got kicked The home engine looks pretty though. I think it's kinda lame that you have to buy all the extra shit. I'm not going to spend real money on not real furniture and clothes. And I hope the final product has more facial hair options than mustaches.

It will. They said they'll be adding new stuff all the time. And I'm excited for the whole 'trophy room' thing so I can look at my goddamned trophies.
