I think the ease of use, accessibility, and not getting slapped with the nerd label is what makes consoles so popular, not how comfortable the controllers are. I mean, with a 360 you can just grab a controller, hop on your couch, and play until your heart desires with all your friends. PC's have been "nerdy" forever now, so PC gaming has been considered nerdy too. PC gaming is typically done by yourself on a desk in your room. Sure, LAN parties are possible, but thats only considered nerdier, and setup is just a pain in the ass (I always hated lugging my tower, monitor, mouse, keyboard, and speakers everywhere.). Consoles just need another controller and bam, you've got a buddy to play with.

So, in conclusion, I think the "nerdiness" and seclusion involved in PC gaming is what steers people away, not a mouse and keyboard.

Unless of course you really hate using a mouse and keyboard.

EDIT: Also, the general uninformed public is typically scared of the thought of the inside of a computer. Many people think they'll break something if they have to install a video card or throw in some RAM. Consoles are simple. You plug it in and its done, no upgrading required.

Well it's not like there aren't game controllers available for the PC. They just tend to suck.

Well, thats like, the opposite of what I'm saying. It's not the controller that matters, its the dynamics of a PC and the social group that goes along with it.

Yeah, I was agreeing with you. I meant 'it can't be the controllers that drives people to consoles because you can get them for PCs'.

I always assumed that was the main reason, to be honest. I really doubt it's the controls. There are easily as many positives to the keyboard and mouse as there are negatives.

Mouse and the keyboard are the best controls considering you can adjust all controls to what feel comfortable and the mouse is a much better aimer then any joystick. PC gaming isn't dying, pretty much every gaming contest is all PC, also, a games performance will always be better on a PC. PC gaming isn't going anywhere but up.

I never liked PC games for sports and racing games with the old mouse and keyboard. I mean yeah you can get a game pad but if you have a console those kinds of games tend to go better on a console. Now for RTS and FPS, the PC wins hands down.

By the way this thread has really been derailed.

PC gaming will never be bigger than it is now. And while the performance might be better on a computer if you have a nice one(which is EXPENSIVE), you have to keep fucking upgrading all the time, my shit is already outdated and I feel like I just got it not that long ago. I like a mouse for rts games and thats it. Keyboards are so annoying to use to control, it was never designed as a game controller. Xbox designed their 360 controller around playing games on it and it's comfortable and amazing to use. I can understand why people use mice and keyboards, I think it is mostly because they grew up on the computer or playing computer games and are so used to it. Now that practically everyone has a console in their house though, odds are they are gonna play their first video games on a console. I'm sorry but pc gaming is dying. I mean look at how popular consoles have gotten over the last couple years. How many people are playing on consoles compared to PC's?

edit: I got some negrep saying I didn't need to be a dick about it. If anyone thought I was being a dick in this post my bad, but I didn't intend for that.

Lol shut up I forgot about WoW. I also forgot about people in asia and their computer games. The thing about WoW though is it looks like shit but is apparently more addicting than crack. This allows for it to be played on most anyones computer without having a nasty one. WoW is just something that many fools have used to waste their lives away.

I think you guys forgot one major argument.

    HD-DVD vs. Blu-ray.

It doesn't matter how many people are playing consoles over PCs, the people who were ever PC gamers are pretty much still PC gamers. It's just a lot of people are getting into video games over the years and they are starting with consoles, some of which will come to PC gaming. So PC gaming will only grow, maybe not the way console gaming will, but it will still grow and never EVER die.

I love my 360 cause I mainly play racing games such as Forza 2 and Midnight Club LA. Ive played PS3, used to have a PS2 as well. I like the 360's controller better though, plus has better games in my opinion.

Get a GT racing wheel and GT5 prologue for PS3.

Best racing game Ive ever played. And the wheel works great.

Really out of the loop when I purchased a Playstation 3, but it was a shock to see so many titles that I imagined to be PS3 exlusives on or planning to be released simultaneously with the 360. I guess the 360 is a great console and has a lot going for it. Either way, I still love my PS3 and believe Sony will come out on top.

Sony won't come out on top, their 4th quarter earnings last year were down something to the tune of 95%.

I still love my PS3 though.

Weren't they expecting a down year due to the manufacturing price vs. retail of the PS3? I believe that they got the manufacturing costs under control this year.

The price to make one and what they sell the 80GB is about 1:1 as of a few months ago.

On the discussion about console v PC peripherals, some games were meant for the PC, some weren't. RTS games are shit on a console, a gamepad just doesn't cut it for those sorts of games. A mouse is a much better controller for point and click games. I also prefer FPS on the PC over a console.

I don't know that people would stay clear of PC gaming because it is seen as nerdy, I have never considered PC gaming the realm of the nerd. Does that say more about me than it does about PC gaming? I have always loved both. The PC has some simply stunning games on it and I will always play on my PC.

As for owning both consoles, I intend to. I have a 360, I just had to have GTA4, and they were doing deals, 360+GTA4=£300 I think it was. Had to be done. There were only 3 reasons I would own a PS3, that is now 2 since FFXIII is 360 bound aswell. The other two are God of War 3 and Metal Gear Solid 4. MGS is just brilliant, one of the best franchises around, Snake is one of the all time iconic, legendary video game characters. AS for God of War 3, I posted a trailer for it in VV, nuff said, it looks shit hot.

I will eventually own a PS3 once the price comes down some more. At this point in time, the price just isn't justified when you look at its competitors. I don't know what they were doing to bump up the price, whatever it was, it just wasn't needed on a fricking games console. And the only 2 reasons I will own one is for those 2 games listed, and also because Sony occassionaly publishes some terrific, god like games (GoW being an example, along with Ico and SotC), if they can repeat that with the PS3 then it would be well worth having.

Little Big Planet is another great game for the PS3. It looks childish but cute, but it is a very fun 4-player adventure game. I guess it would be more appropriately called a platformer, but I'm not sure if that is right. LBP has gotten a lot of playtime around the room. We spend a lot of time creating our own levels and playing each others' levels.

What? You can use the same controllers on your PC.

People seriously overplay this. You don't need a $3k PC to be able to game at higher resolutions and detail than a console; in most cases, and $800 PC will do. You're also ignoring the fact that a PC has other uses. If you consider that you'd spend at least $400-$500 on a 'normal' PC you're not spending that much more to be able to game on it.

Furthermore, it's a bit disingenuous to balk at the price of a gaming PC while ignoring the cost of an HDTV. To game with settings even approaching PC games you're going to be dropping at least another $600 to couple thousand on a TV. Even if it was a past purchase, this price adds to the total you've spent to game with comparable settings.

You're also paying for DLC content that PC players get for free.
A keyboard and mouse are simply better for precision control in FPS games. That's not debatable. Any long-time FPS player knows this, and it's exactly why things like the Frag-Fx exist.

Of course the 'console generation' is more used to controllers, but that says nothing. You're also use to playing with sub par graphics, FOV and resolution. Popularity does not mean something is objectively better.

I'm sorry but pc gaming is dying. I mean look at how popular consoles have gotten over the last couple years. How many people are playing on consoles compared to PC's?
People have been saying this since the SNES and Genesis were new. PC gaming may not be growing like console gaming is, but it's not going anywhere either; the majority of competitive gaming is still done on the PC, PC-only FPS, RTS and MMOs are still some of the most played games on the net and most major titles are cross platform (even if only Xbox/PC).

All that said, neither is truly superior, no matter how much the console fanboys wish it were. Both have their strengths and weaknesses, and gamers have their preferences. Personally, I don't bother with console FPS due to the issues I've already outlined in addition to the lack of mod-ability, dedicated private servers and the overabundance of retarded 14 yr olds on Live etc, but prefer consoles for fighting games, platformers etc.
