Uh, I guess I could better describe it as this:

The other day I read a short story that I found to be profound. I got my girlfriend to read it, and she also enjoyed it. If someone were to make a movie adaptation out of it, and it completely ruined the story, I would feel empathetic towards the people that would never read the story because they saw the movie, and therefore, never experience what I did.

I know, I was just trying to explain my view of why poor adaptations irritate me.

Also as a cinema fan, when they adapt games to movies, it's not like there's a shortage of excellent, well thought out stories to choose from.
