    Default Xbox 360 Project Natal

It's a gay name but this is the craziest shit I have ever seen.

    article

What do you guys think? I mean it seems pretty legit, I'm sure that video makes it look better than it is but from what people are saying, it works really well. If this shit actually works well it would be nuts, there would be so many possibilities.

There would, but how many people would use them? Is it easy to develop for? Would it only get first party support, or would most third party support suck, a-la the 'game-changing' Wii?

I think it's nifty, and I liked the Milo demo a littler more - the AI construct made by Peter Moneuyleusakjdkx, but still. I think it's just a little silly.

Great idea, but im guessing it will not work as well as in the advertisment. Also I agree that it will probably have very few games supported.

A novelty at best, kinda like the wii was for everyone who isnt 5

EDIT: Isnt this just the eye-toy 2.0 basically? This technology has been around for years.....

the video makes it look amazing... and honestly i'm sure with enough practice this could be everything the Wii was supposed to be

    but wasn't.

I can't see this working as well it's advertised. I can see it being maybe kinda fun for party games (like the Wii) but for any other style of game I can't see this being a grand slam way to play.

well it looks amazing but yeah i don't think it will work out as well as they are hoping. i mean people won't be able to use it wasted, or what if people are constantly walking in front of you

also that was a horrible advert that made me want to kill people.
its worse than the wii ones.

please stop making these terrible ads someone!
although the how many pushups can chuck norris do question made me laugh

Everyone is saying that there is no way this could work as well as it is advertised to but....why not? Technology has been taking broad steps for years, and it stands to reason that technology will continue to advance indefinitely, so why not? This is the first step to proving my theory (a theory I've actually written about) that technology will continue to advance until we don't even have to do anything for it to work. Talking to it to turn on, facial recognition for log on, control in real space, these are all things movies dreamed up thirty years ago. Hasn't that been enough time for us to at least get something close? (and don't use the flying car argument because that is different)

I trust Peter Moleneuenxsdjn, and if he is excited about the possibilities of such a device then I am too until something comes along to prove my excitement misplaced.

Yea I'm not sure about that, I can only hope for the best in that regard.

The wii is a novelty? It has sold more than xbox360 and ps3 combined btw, I wouldn't consider that a novelty. Also the fact that you just compared this to the eye toy shows how little you understand the gigantic differences between the way this works and the way the eye toy works. This uses a rgb camera, an infrared projector combined with a monochrome CMOS sensor and a multiarray mic.

Maybe, but so far the people who have used it have liked it and said it was much better than they expected.

I mean you might not be able to imagine it but that doesn't mean they can't make it.

I'm not trying to say that this is going to be amazing, it could definitely flop but the technology is no gimimick and that's what impresses me. Microsoft could fuck up the implementation but they nailed the tech part(at least it appears that way).

Remember how intuitive and responsive the Wii remote seemed at E3 when it was first showed off? And then when it launches it wasn't quite as responsive and as awesome as it was hyped out to be. That's what I can see happening with this.

Then again, as already mentioned, that's up to Microsoft to provide strong support for this and for 3rd party devs not to slack on this.

I believe that is the product my friend showed me awhile ago. Somewhere on that site they explain how it could be used for gaming

People besides microsoft representatives have used it and all seemed very impressed, I'm not just basing everything off of that video. I guarantee it will be a lot more successful than the eye toy was.

all it has to do is glitch in some way/shape/form at any time and it'll instantly be discredited (imo)

i mean i suppose it's cool if you have a family or a group of friends who like to sit around a tv and play games together, but for the average gamer this is not something i could see as being a staple

fixed. I think this is designed for the casual gamer.

And 1 glitch discredits it? What kind of crazy standards are those? By that logic the xbox 360 should be a flop. You see the xbox has this one little glitch where it gets the red ring of death and then surprise it's dead and you need a new one. Oh and it happened to like a third of all of the xbox 360's made.

    I'm saying:

Unless they get major third party support, and not just from the people that made Chicken Shoot an online flash/Wii/DS phenomenon, then it'll suck. Wii gets 3-4 good games a year. While the X-box does get considerably more, I think it'll be a mistake making games that revolve around something that many people won't use, or will find silly.

Given the choice between controller based gameplay and motion based gameplay, I think most gamers will tend to err on the side of controller. As fun as skateboarding and kicking one guy once across the screen, I think most developers will be afraid to develop a game like Grand Theft Auto, due to the implications that acting out the scenes would have.

It'll be good, for causal games. But I get enough fun casual games from XBLA and the PSN. I don't need to spend money on an add on that acts entirely as a gimmick, and not a supplement to standard games. If they used the NATAL, for say, I dunno, a supplement of Ninja Gaiden 3, then that'd be great. I'd probably play it. But unless it's optional and integrated into games, I don't see it as being a game changer, so to speak.

It may work differently, but it still looks like the same result, at least it did in that video - and I meant the wii is a novelty for serious gamers, the only reason it is dominating the market is because Nintendo are flooding the market with mediocre childrens games, that obviously children want and therefore their parents buy it to shut them up.

The Wii is not what I would consider a serious games console, despite the sales.

Either way Sony have shown what they can do with motion capture technology, IMO it looks better but again, its not something that will catch on.

I just cant see it happening

I feel as though that if the most casual player was a 1 and the most hardcore was a 10, with the average gamer being a 5, this would be around a 2-4. It obviously is (assuming it's polished and whatnot) a great piece of technology with a lot of fun possibilities, though.

And I meant glitches in a different sense than a conventional game's glitch. I was thinking more along the lines of a sensory glitch or something that made gameplay difficult/tedious/annoying, not "i pushed this button and my screen went black" kind of shit.

I read that gizmodo piece too, and it shows promise.

However, if I am to believe correctly, it would seem that Natal is going to be compatible with a whole host of games that already exist. One of the tech demos is with Burnout Paradise, which has been out for years. If Natal is designed to be compatible with everything (or even just more than nothing, really) then there is little to no danger of it fading off into gimmicky obscurity.

One thing I don't think I'll like is all the moving around that some games might implement. Like all the Wii games where you shake the remote as fast as you can. I can see this being a lot of body movement. When I play video games I play to sit down and unwind. Not to sit on my couch and punch and kick air.

But after reading that article it does sound kinda promising. I'll have to try it before I can give a real judgement on it

Still not thinking that it's worth a purchase.

When I hit X, I jump. I don't jump 90% of the time when I hit X. It happens consistently.

Granted, this motion business is kind of a new platform, but when I hit A in Mario, I always jump. Not just 90% of the time.

Ok, I couldn't be bothered to read the whole thread, but I watched the video.

Considering companies have been trying this for a while, I'll stay cynical. The Wii doesn't work right, the Six Axis didn't work right, I'm just going to bet that this won't work right either.
