    Default Civilization BTS.

So I just played the latest installment of Civilization and I gotta say I loved it. I've never really be into strategy games, but now I think I'm going to be on the look out for them. Can you guys throw me some suggestions on good turn based or real time strategy games? I've already hit up Starcraft and Warcraft, but any more along those lines would be awesome.

I was going to suggest Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri too. But of course, AC is really in the same line as Civilization games, as it was made by Sid Meier and Friaxis, the company that at the time owned the Civilization franchise (later bought out by Take Two who now own the series). It is an awesome variation on Civilization, and I too highly recommend it if you haven't tried it.

I too have gotten into the Civ 4 game late myself, as I only got it last month, but now my best friend and I play games over the internet.

Unfortunately, the Civilization series is really unique, and I doubt that there are really many similar games out there. Maybe some of the 4X games come close, but they are mostly based in space and have their own idiosyncracies.

Well... I just found out that Call to Power II (published 2000, which was suppose to be a spirituall succesor to Civilization) has had its source code released since October 2003, and this has caused a very active modding community to develop improvements to the original game. The community modified game is called the Apolyton edition, but you still need a legally purchased original copy of the game to play the modified version: http://www.ctp2.info/

Rise of Nations isn't turn-based but it's the closest to civilization in terms of tech and economy complexity.

Yeah Rise of Nations is considered the RTS version of Civilization. Civilization Revolution on consoles is a good game. The Total War series involves a lot of turn-based play and real-time action.

    also play as the byzantines
