    Default Warhammer anyone?

Who is playing? What server etc? I am not sure what server my friends picked yet as they all had CE while I am still waiting to start with my SE.

I thought this meant actual Warhammer... as in figurines, dice and battlefields.

Yeah I used to play that.

Yeah I only played once or twice but the main focus of my attention was painting the little bastards. Which in fairness was quite fun.

Okay back to the video game you little figurine painting freaks.

I'm still undecided as to whether I'm going to buy the game ultimately, but knowing me I'll probably be like "Screw it" and buy it right on September 17th.

As for server, I have no idea. What class will I play? If I am going to be a healing archetype, I will probably be an Archmage (or Shaman if I decide to align with Destruction), though WPs/Zealots look interesting as well.

I'm probably gonna get it, comes out this Wednesday apparently.

I'm leaning towards a black orc, orc choppa or dwarven engineer. No idea what realm I'll be playing on as I have no idea what any of the realm names are going to be.

If you had bought the pre-order package, you would have been playing the game since the 16th.

Also, my server name is Monolith

I preordered it from Gamestop but they never had the preorder box I was supposed to receive. Oh well, I plan on getting it today or tomorrow since it's already in. Probably going to roll a White Lion.

Yeah I agree. They're so easy to get involved in... my lecturers would say that's a bad thing, but I quite like the whole two MMOs I've played.

Ehhhhh.... I definitely wouldn't call MMO's at the state they're currently in the "best genre" of video games (though I wouldn't call any genre the "best genre"). MMO's have a lot of limitations imposed on them by their nature as massive, multiplayer, and (as is usually the case) persistent. There are, nearly by necessity, many elements that are drawn out, repetitive, and a boring. However, they are some of the most engrossing games since they encourage specific in-game interactions with a whole community of other players that really make one as though he or she is a real part of the world.

Anyways, I am still rather excited about WAR since hopefully it won't demand that I schedule the time I'm on it as is required by a raid-oriented game such as WoW, and it seems to be fairly well developed. However, there are still bugs and balancing issues which hopefully will be addressed in the up-coming months. The game in its current state is still fun, and in fact the class balance is decent considering that the game has just been released (pre-order people are essentially playing the full game right now.)

So the game takes up 16GB, requires a 1GB patch and sucks dick. That was my analysis as I watched my friend play it earlier.

Hmm, welp your mother is huge and also sucks dick, yet you seem to like her.

In other news, I just visited Altdorf for the first time. Not bad, and the Bright Wizard College is particularly impressive. The interior is an instance filled with rank 40 Hero Bright Wizards, which I'm guessing are there for invading Destruction armies to fight.

Can you only buy 1 copy of a game, because if not you could make some cash buying from work then reselling games.

Not allowed, at all. I can give them to friends but I can't resell. Not worth losing my job over a few bucks.

What's the world like? Is it reaaallly wide open like WoW (like you can walk from one side of the world to the other) or is it more like Age of Conan where a lot of the stuff you follow on a set path.

It's more linear, and I think it is that way partly to ensure that enemy players encounter each other a lot, since WAR is mainly Realm v Realm PvP game with a some light PvE added to it.

So what you'll find is that your leveling zones are right next to your enemy race's leveling zones, and there are a lot of places on the map where you'll come into direct conflict with your enemies.

Also, note that PvP in WAR is much more fun than PvP in WoW. I hated WoW PvP with a passion, but WAR PvP is just insane fun.

After playing for a couple of days now since launch, I have a few comments...

It's fun, for sure, and has some nice alternatives to WoW... for example showing you exactly where to go for each quest, and the public quests are hella fun.

The problem, IMO, is it's buggy as hell... Every time I exit the game I have to ctrl+alt+delete and end the program, even then it takes 3-5 minutes to finally exit. Hella annoying.

I'm enjoying the Maurader class though, and the game has potential but really needs to be polished a ton. I'd suggest waiting a while if you want to try it, so they get some of the bugs worked out. There are way too many of them right now.

Wow, I just totally disagree with this.

I've encounter bugs, mostly graphical but some minor gameplay issues, especially since I'm a pet class and the pets have had some AI and pathing problems. However, no class is truly broken to the extent that it is unplayable, and the game as a whole is totally playable and totally fun.

And this isn't to mention how most MMOs have major bugs, class balancing issues, and whatnot on release. WAR, on the other hand, has some class balancing issues that definitely need attention and some relatively small bugs, but is totally and completely playable as well as a lot of fun.

Gamespot did a good video pre-review of the game : http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/warha...opslot;thumb;3

I'm sort of turned off to this game, because when AoC came out everyone when nuts over it - and then I bought it and it sucked soooo bad.

I'm playing on Drakwald as Order, but I'm not sure I like it just yet. The pve is basically WoW2 which I don't like, but RvR seems fun so far. I don't know that it will be fun enough to keep me playing months down the road, but it's fun for now.

Most MMOs are mindnumbingly boring, unless you're the type that just enjoy grinding out stats and gathering loot for hours on end, which I'm not. I don't really care about pretending to be an elf or slaying dragons or whatever. If more MMOs had decent pvp they'd be alright, but they still have a ridiculous time investment to be able to do anything fun.

I find the PVE aspects a little better than WoW as there isn't a constant grindfest as far as I can tell. Quests are plentiful.

The PVP is pretty good so far too, everything seems balanced and interesting minus the fact that Destruction seems to outnumber Order on almost every occasion.

I play on Wolfenburg as a High Elf White Lion. Go Order.

I'm a White Lion too. It's pretty awesome that a melee DPS class gets a pet, and for that reason they seem to be very a versatile class.

Keep in mind, MBok, that it is a PvP-oriented game. The PvE doesn't get much more developed than it is at low levels (i.e. no raids, and the instances are fairly simple, straight-forward affairs with tank and spank bosses.)

Beta felt like WoW with a new set of skins. I stopped playing months ago and have no interest in picking it back up unless I just hear rave reviews.

I think you do have a point Sole. However, I feel that the problem isn't exactly what you're saying, but rather that there is too much PvE focus during leveling, and it takes too long to get to the real meat of the game, namely the RvR warfare. It would have been better if leveling sort of funneled you into RvR right away instead of almost obscuring it until you hit the higher ranks. I think what they may have been striving for was a gentler introduction to the game (especially for those people coming from WoW).

But between zones there are great RvR battlegrounds (assuming they are populated), and the scenarios are awesome as well. The PvE content is good if you either don't have time for RvR, if you're waiting for your scenario to start, or if you feel like doing a PQ.

Oh right-- more PQs should have also had a RvR aspect to them, and they should have been a little more diverse.

Still, as a pvp game it leaves a lot to be desired, like that fact that you have to pve at all or grind levels. The fact that pvp wasn't tacked on to a pve-grind fest engine as an after thought puts it a cut above most MMOs, but the lack of arenas or any form of organized pvp, ladders or a tournament system hurts it as a pvp game imo. Granted, RvR is pretty fun at the moment, but it's far from competitive, and I just don't know if it will be able to keep me interested in the long term.

MMOs would do well to learn from Guild Wars, imo. These types of games have a lot to offer in terms of complexity and depth of gameplay, but always seem to screw up the pvp catering to RPers and poopsockers. War seems to have gotten some things right (pvp right from the start, bolstering etc), but still follows the stale old MMO mold in many places. I just hope that they improve on their system.

Yeah I know that, that's one of the reasons why I'm liking the game so much. I'm fairly tired of all the raiding and hardcore instances for just a few pieces of loot.

I think that for a launch, Mythic did a pretty good job on the pvp aspects, especially when you consider sycld's comment about how maybe they purposely tried to make the transition from WoW easier. I think that they'll add more pvp content like an arena and tournaments and more competitive functions with a future expansion.

I hated arena in WoW. The RVR in WAR seems more like you're partaking in an epic story rather than some xbox live e-penis competition.

WoW pvp was shit regardless; it was pvp tacted onto a pve system that catered to RPers who expected to be "better" at the game due to spending massive amounts of time grinding gear. RvR is fun, I'd just like to see something for guilds/friends lists, or even PUGs, to form coherent groups, get on vent and play. That's way more fun than running around a scenario with randoms, or losing because the other 2-3 parties in your scenario are idiots. I'm not talking about penis waving, just something a bit less random/casual. War already does casual pvp fairly well.

You can do premades with up to 6 people. The guild interface is GREAT, though the overall social interface could really use some polish.

And in the end, your guild can build a keep and defend it against other guilds. That and city sieges are the more substantial RvR as far as I know.

Keep in mind that you're comparing the "hardcore" endgame WoW content to the more casual low level WAR content. Remember that all the low level content was more casual-oriented (5 man dungeons, battlegrounds-- no raids, no arenas).

Yes, you can join a scenario with a group, but it's not just your group versus another. Haven't made it to the siege RvR yet, so I can't speak to that.

And I'm actually comparing Guild Wars HA and GvG (although more of the latter) to War. WoW was a horrible game imo.

I'm really liking the quickness that the Mythic devs have with patching things up and actually listening to player feedback. This alone is enough to keep me with the game instead of going back to WoW. Don't get me wrong, Blizzard is nice but they need to listen a little more to the community. It seems like everyday a new patch with good fixes is released by Mythic.

I've only had it for a week but I'm loving it. Rank 10, rvr is so much fun.
I'm on sea of malice if anyone cares to play with me

Lol, well I meant listening to the relevant complaints about the classes. You gotta admit that WoW doesn't have decent class balance.

uhm both factions can choose from the same classes, ever since bc was released.
