sycld: King of Queens, According to Jim, The Drew Carey Show, Seinfeld, and Everybody Loves Raymond also had large male viewership without even reasonably attractive male characters.

I think you'd find that given a choice between a show with all characters (male and female) being attractive and a show in which male characters were unattractive and females were attractive, men would prefer everyone be attractive. But that's a product of comparison, not deep-seated homoeroticism the way you'd like.

I mean it's a pretty easily demonstrated phenomenon in selection bias that slightly uglier versions make the normal version appear more attractive. Given a choice between an all-expenses paid trip to Paris and an all-expenses paid trip to Venice, the distribution will be basically even 50-50. If you add a third choice of an all-expenses paid trip to Paris that does not include complimentary coffee in the hotel lobby, suddenly the all-expenses paid Paris trip selection looks more attractive and Venice loses share (no one chooses to skip the coffee except Mormons.)

yes yes, i was just talking in general. of course there are shows with ugly male characters that are/were popular, just as there were shows with ugly female characters that were popular amongst a broad demographic, rosanne for example. (though admittedly shows of the latter type are rare, and i cannot think of shows with attractive men and ugly women.)

But that's a product of comparison, not deep-seated homoeroticism the way you'd like.
hey now, i said it wasn't due to some deep-seated homoeroticism. it's just that if men admit other men are good looking, they're paranoid about being labeled gay.

Normal, My second run through I'm doing it on Insane(as I died a total of like one time in normal, and that was cause I had 2 krogans on my ass and my guy wouldn't sticky to the wall i thought he was on).

I was disappointed by the game, doesn't mean I didn't like it, I will still play the third, and probably pick up the first and play it again, and go through the second again, to have a continuous story.

Also I'm a poet, I'm surprised you didn't know it.

So I've finally got around to playing the game and I imported as a vanguard again and am playing on hardcore difficulty. So far the challenge level is pretty good, but it's probably because I haven't fully learned how to play yet. I'll probably do an insanity difficulty later as an infiltrator as I can see how that class would be overpowered in this game (also there are so many situations where I wish I had a sniper rifle).

Despite that the game description says that vanguards are best at close combat, I've found that with the new cooldown system, Pull is enough to crowd control like I used to in Mass Effect, but of course vanguards are seriously nerfed by the fact that all bad guys are immune to biotics now until you take out their shields and or armor which is seriously annoying. I guess they wanted to make soldiers not useless in this game.

Another thing that bugs me is the "evolution" powers. Pay 4 squad points to get HALF the benefits of the previous levels? Thanks bioware how about you pay 4 squad points to suck half my dick.

Also I'm glad they kept in the feature that if you try and skip past dialogue you automatically choose the dialogue option you really don't want to choose. That was one of my favourite parts about Mass Effect so I'm glad they kept it in.

i'm probably not going to complete ME2 or DA:O (up to the final battle) anytime soon.

i've shelved both of them for free, graphically terrible Rogue-likes that I'm enjoying a hell of a lot. now those are real RPGs...

also for tropico 3, but that's a completely different genre.

Dragon Age drags, but Mass Effect 2 is like a thrill ride. I don't know how you haven't beaten it already.

i started as an engineer, and i hated it. it's basically firing off an ability and waiting for the cooldown to be up to fire off the next one. their special ability, turrets, suck (at least before you upgrade them to fire or ice turrets). of course in terms of armaments, engineers only use pistols. pistols were actually pretty damn good in ME1, but they are just terrible in ME2.

i had begun a restart with a soldier but hadn't gotten nearly as far as my first playthrough.

Oh, I see why you shelved it then, lol. It's worth playing through though, eventually.

Roguelikes are awesome RPGs... if you don't like your games to have structure. Or story. Pretty much if you just like being a dude who will inevitably die in some dark dungeon being whipped by some strong armed hugely phallic imaginary demon.

Personally I find roguelikes good mindless rpgs that I can play during class and then abandon when I get bored of them without an ounce of regret.

I'm a little biased since one of my favourite games for my sega game gear was a roguelike.

hey, i thought rogue-likes were suppose to have "depth" (that's what all the rogue-like fanbois claim at any rate).

wait... there was a rogue-like on game gear?

yeah i used to play Fatal Labyrinth a lot on my Sega Genesis back in the day

which wikipedia informs me is a sequel or in the same game family tree as Dragon Crystal. It's a 'graphically enhanced rogue-like'

i should've figured that coq would contribute when the discussion turned to very old or ascii-based "video" games.

The roguelike is a sub-genre of role-playing video games, characterized by randomization for replayability, permanent death, and turn-based movement. Many early roguelikes featured ASCII graphics. Games are typically dungeon crawls, with many monsters, items, and environmental features. Computer roguelikes usually employ the majority of the keyboard to facilitate interaction with items and the environment. The name of the genre comes from the 1980 game Rogue.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roguelike

So yeah, they're turn-based RPG dungeon crawls that have enormous types of enemies, loot, classes, races, etc. They're played from an overhead perspective with a very large number of commands that are all accessible via single key presses.

They most often use ascii-based "graphics," but many have graphical tilesets as well. Frankly, I can only stand the graphical ones, so I don't have to waste time determining whether that ")" is a mace, a spear, a bow, etc. And any way even these very simple graphics add some spice to the game.

I like simple Rougelikes. Not all that bullshit where you can raise your lumberjack skill to 100. And then get killed by a bird, because fuck yourself.

I enjoyed ME2 even though it felt a bit stripped at times.

Off-topic: One roguelike game is Unreal World. It's pretty hard and once you die it's game over. You can visit villages to buy more stuff or hunt wild animals. You can even try building your own house, which is a long process.

I tried playing it on Insanity but it's way too frustrating. It takes a ton of bullets to kill enemies, your teammates are stupid, and every time you die you have to go through a ridiculously long load screen.

Also the best thing to do is just turn off your party's AI in regards to powers and micromanage them. Unlike other games, micro-management in ME2 is really easy

The Xbox's HUD is different so it sucks having to target an enemy then pull up a wheel. But the achievements are fun ok?

I'm sorry you're playing it for console bro hehehe.

On a side-note I reformatted my computer and apparently the save files are kept somewhere weird so I guess I lost my level 30 shepard whoops.
