Really, I don't understand how it would not make any sense. (Because it does) Anyway, if you want to continue arguing about this, go talk with Einstein.

(And I'm not talking about the missing "be" because I know what a typo is.)
I feel that I can not explain this theory well since I am not a physicist. I would read about time dilation. If I do happen to be wrong then I would appreciate if you would cite your findings. I kinda doubt that you will though.
I didn't say it was possible to travel faster than the speed of light and zipzap through time, I said it was possible to speed up the speed of light.
I guess I was wrong when I said we hadn't done it yet.
Oh man, I created a monster. This is exactly what the superman geeks were talking about, 'cept people here are actually quoting relevant articles on the issue.
Damn do you think you could have overreacted more? I said that mostly as a joke. If that sparked some debate about physics I think that's great, better talk about special relativity than this stupid topic. I mean the question is not who does not find nerdiness endearing, it's who does find it endearing. I know you would probably like to get back on the original topic cc because the level of your nerdiness is unimaginable to most people. I know it must seem nice to think that some people find your primary quality endearing but the truth is no one in real life does. No one besides the same kind of sweaty, nerdy people. Why would you even make that post you douchebag.
Traveling the speed of light one would cease to age relative to someone who who is not moving at the speed of light. Your relative aging would slow as you approached the speed of light but once you hit it there is no slowing, it just stops. Another cool way to travel into the future would be to go hang out near a black hole (hovering just above the event horizon of course). The size of the black hole and how close you are to the event horizon would affect how much slower time would go for you than for someone on earth.
edit: I didn't even see this post before
I don't believe it's possible to travel back in time, it doesn't make any fucking sense to even think about. Imagining what would happen if someone exceeded light speed doesn't even make sense because it will never happen. We can approach it all we want but we are never moving a human with a velocity greater than that of light speed. Like I said before it's because it would take infinite energy to do and unless we get some infinite energy engines we will never do it. I'm not sure what you mean by "To the observer on earth, the one traveling at or faster than light speed would be moving at a slower rate." Even if someone was able to go light speed how would they seem to be moving at a slower rate? Also time dilation is not what you were talking about. I don't know if you just worded what you meant to say badly but what you have written is not time dilation.
Ok I'm pretty sure I have a open mind, but there are some things that you should believe. I don't think it is possible for us to do that ever. I base my beliefs off of the special theory of relativity. Exceeding the speed of light would defy that, something I do not believe is possible. There is a difference between having an open mind and being confident in what you believe. If someone could provide me with any possible idea of a way to exceed the speed of light then I might say it would be possible to exceed we just can't do it now. Too bad these theories don't exist. For it to be possible it would mean that our whole idea of physics was wrong. I don't think it is so I will say it is impossible.
I think Killuminati's right. I mean, my idea of this bit is pretty sketchy, but what I am led to believe is this: when an object moves fast (and I mean really, really fast, like, PSHEEEEEW fast, like 90% of the speed of light), it starts to have more mass. A lot more mass, and it increases as it accellerates. It also (obviously) has more energy. To accellerate to the speed of light, the object would have either infinite or some impossibly high amount of mass and you'd need infinite energy, which is obviously impossible.
I mean we know that it's impossible to have infinite energy. We just know that.
I dont see how it would be interpreted like that. You would have to be going the speed of light for a while to even get past where you would normally die from old age. Say you are 20, and will live to be 80. You would have to travel faster than the speed of light for 60 years. And you didnt really time travel. You just waited for 60 years.
And time travel is what we do everyday. You sit there, you are traveling through time. Alot of people take that into consideration when saying one can travel through time.
Killuminati quit talking in paragraph form.
I tend to gravitate towards nerdy guys. Mostly guys that play video games, not guys that can come at me with excessive knowledge about quantum linear nuclear physics and crap like that. i'm pretty sure those few words that i just strung together make no sense.
Oh gina if I were older and cooler and near you I would definitely seduce you with my cool nerdy ways.
Oh God...
I would love to get in on this, but, Jesus, my midterm is tomorrow.
One thing I will remark on is this: Consider an object so dense that it actually bends the fabric of space-time. Einstein also held that upon reaching one end of the universe you would end up on the opposite side essentially looping space-time. Now this object of immense density actually falls through the fabric and connects with the other side, we'll consider these things..black holes. Thus allowing travel from one space-time to another.
Time-travel by FTL speeds or even light speeds simply shouldn't be considered unless we are scrambled into photos and shot through something (consider it like Willy Wonka transmitting a kid through signals)
I really hope sycld come in here and calls me out on everything I said.
I don't know if it's really objective for nerds to discuss whether nerdiness is an endearing quality or not.
Well it really was a question of "have you run into people who truly look down on you for or are repelled by your nerdiness". But yeah.
To be honest, I don't come in contact with that many people who are not nerdy or geeky in some sort of way. So to answer your question, no I have not run into people who were repelled by my (relatively mild) nerdy ways.
Well, I'm really nerdy and so is my best friend. We both love comics, anime and Coheed and Cambria; but we only talk about it with each other since no one else around us can carry a conversation about vampires or werewolves.
Wait Coheed and Cambria are considered nerdy? I was not aware of this.
Um when a band releases multiple concept albums based on a halfbaked shitfuck sci-fi story I think it's safe to consider their fans nerds.
Good point I suppose.
I don't care about the anime/comics/star wars/trek shit cause to each his own right?
I mean I play mmorpgs and rpgs are my favorite genre of game, from D&D to Final Fantasy etc.
But i would make fun of you for liking Buffy, not because it's girly, but because that show straight up sucks ass.
I can be nerdy, especially when I'm drunk or high. Most of my friends are the same way.
