Default Stuff you know WAY too much about

This isn't like that "challenge for the rights of master" thread a few years back, but what do you know way too much about? I see this thread as a way for people to say "Man, I've always wanted to know more about [Insert Topic Here] and [Insert Poster Name Here] knows a lot about it, so I can ask them any questions I have!"

For instance, Gwahir could run circles around nearly everyone in Buffy-verse knowledge, and Tengu can run laps mentally about Star Wars.

I personally know a lot about Terminator, Predator/Alien, and comic books. What do you consider yourself an expert on?

I know way too much about Swamp Thing, Star Wars (both EU and Saga), Deadpool, pro wrestling, and the Buffy-verse (but far inferior to gwahir) as far as nerdfare is concerned.

As far as nerdfare goes: Astronautics and space vehicle design. I nerd out over that stuff pretty hard.

Anon: I actually found out that the M1 Thompson actually did have an aperture sight instead of a rear sight today. I thought aperture's weren't used in WWII, but I was wrong. I also love to read about Vietnam and the weapons of the era.

Mr E, I'd LOVE to talk with you about Swamp Thing one day. I don't know anything, but I'd love to learn more. The only comic I've ever read with Swamp Thing in it was John Constantine's 40th Birthday where he showed up and made one of John's friend's pot plants sprout like a fern.

Also: It needn't be only nerdfare. Just anything you geek out over. Except religion or politics. Let's keep AI in AI.

Aperture sights were pretty much standard in WWII for the US. I think the only rifle w/o a rear aperture sight was the M1903 Springfield. I have an M1 Carbine, and it has the aperture on it. And Im getting an M1 Garand soon. It has them too. Id love to get a Thompson. But they are really expensive, and to get one you have to get it registered as a short barreled rifle.

I know an ungodly amount about stand up comedy. I know a hell of a lot about regular comedy too (especially British alternative) but stand up is probably my speciality.

Fantasy epics. For the series I've read, I can tell you almost every plot twist, list almost every character and deconstruct why they did what they did, the reasons behind it and what it's symbolic of. Even for those books I haven't read in years, with minimal prompting, I can go over almost obscure events and chat about them. The series I know best are:

A Song of Ice and Fire - George R. R. Martin
    The Belgariad/Mallorean/Elenium/Tamuli - David Eddings
The Malazan Book of the Fallen - Steven Erikson

and I have a passing familiarity with the Wheel of Time series, the Saga of Recluce, Lord of the Rings, all the Thomas Covenant series and all of Terry Brook's Shannara books.

I nerd out pretty hard over fantasy stuff, but it's a guilty pleasure of mine.

Thompsons are actually pretty common and cheap out here in Utah. See, I misunderstood the term aperture. This is the real aperture sight from ww2:

This is the one from CoD 5 that I was pretty sure was BS:

    http://image.com.com/gamespot/images..._screen010.jpg

when I read about Thompsons having "aperture sights" i thought it meant the red dot ish one. I didn't even realize that the small metal circle sight on the garand counted as an aperture sight.

I was a victim of nomenclature, and I'm a better man for getting it worked out in my head.

David Eddings is kind of my family standard for reading. Me and my brother and sister have read Belgariad/Mallorean 4 or 5 times each lol

But weirdly enough I hated his other work. I felt like he was just writing Belgariad again, but with different names.

yeah, you're not the only person to think that. He unashamedly admit to rewriting the same story again in the Mallorean, claiming that history can't move forward and everything has to happen again until the EVENT takes place. It made reading Belgarath and Polgara very easy.

He totally rips off his own characters for the next one - not identical, but the same sort of traits. I mean Talen = Silk, Aphrael = Ce'Nedra with Polgara's power, Sparhawk is a Garion/Belgarath combo, Kalten is Barak, Kurik and Durnik are pretty much completely identical, Bevier is Mandorallen, Ulath is also Barak and Tynian is Lelldorin without the retarded romanticism.

And then he did it again with the Redemption of Althalus, where every character there is a carbon copy with a couple differences from his characters in the Belgariad/Mallorean/Elenium/Tamuli.

In his defense, he is a pretty good storyteller, so I didn't mind it too much, but you know.

First off it's the Whedon-verse. As for me, I know a little too much about Zombies. From different types, origins, modern vs. lore, and how it apparently reflexes a morbid fascination with the next stage in life.

Oh and I'm kinda history buff.

No I got why the mallorean was a clone, but the story where the dude had the magic books or something, about the thief or whatever? It was the exact same ha ha

Firstly, I'll expand from Buffyverse to Whedonverse. There's not a power in the 'verse... etc.

Also, I know way too much about everything Wodehouse. Also, nowhere near enough. GIVE ME MORE WODEHOUSE.

I'm pretty sure my knowledge of Lord of the Rings and the entire saga of Middle Earth is only inferior to benszs on this forum.

I also suggest that Syme not be allowed to post itt, because he knows way too much about everything :cross:

That "aperture" sight on WaW never existed. And it wouldnt work if it did. On non -magnified sights like that, the dot has to be able to move around in the sight. Like the EOTech I have on my AR-15. If you move your head to the side, the dot moves to the side, but stays on the target. When tey do that they are called parallax free.

That's what I always assumed, but like I said, nomenclature got the best of me.

I was thinking the same thing but hey, that's why they call it a guilty pleasure.

I mean I loved David Eddings, and I think hes a great young-teen or precocious child author, but his stories, aside from being well-told, lack any kind of depth or meaning to make them particularly valuable, aside from his often humourous description of group relationships. It was probably how he described everyone functioning in a group that gave me an unconscious understanding of how to do so effectively myself, especially when I was living in a group, so I think it is valuable in that regard. I guess it has it's other moments, but the other series tend to touch on bigger themes and handle them in a better way than Eddings' cookie cutter, black/white, 100% straightforward story.

That's why I generally prefer stuff like the Malazan Book of the Fallen, because it has touched on some bigger societal issues when the Author kicks in through one of his characters and waxes philosophical for a while. The execution isn't always what I prefer, but the guy makes a point without belabouring it or beating you over the head with it. And of course, massive epics just appeal to me deeply anyways.

While I'm at it, let's throw the Chronicles of Narnia on that list, because I read that a lot as a kid and I'm pretty sure I can still give you a detailed summary of every story off the top of my head.

Oh, as far as books go I've only read the first one. I meant more about the game itself.

Boxing (I used to box and in that period I bought a bunch of books and read them all cover to cover, I could probably name every undisputed heavyweight champ in order). The Roswell incident, serial killers, the Halloween series, Metallica, Eminem, View-Askewniverse, weed, Rescue Me.
