Default No License. Getting back into the dating game.

So my girlfriend of over 5 years and I broke up about a month ago. For a bit I thought we might be able to get back together since we were hanging out a bit and having fun, but she got into a relationship with another guy so that fantasy was buried.

Anyway, I'm 23 and am having a hard time figuring out how to dive back into the dating game. It was easy back when I was younger since I knew most of the girls in my town and had parties to go to every weekend. Now I'm in a new town and have no idea what to do. I lost my license back when I was 18 because of a stupid drunk driving incident where I busted up my vehicle and now owe the insurance company over 16 grand which is far out of my reach right now so I've been walking/biking/busing since then. Now that's fine for me, but I feel like that's a huge hurdle when it comes to dating.

Is not having a car a huge deal breaker? How do I work around that and how exactly do I get back into the game. I enjoy being single, but I also miss having someone to talk to, wake up next to, have sex with, etc. I mean I;m not hideous, I have a fairly good job and my own place, but it just seems like not having a vehicle or really many friends in this area is making my confidence drop to the floor.

temporarily without a license as well, i know that it can seriously undermine your confidence and aplomb. you could turn it to your advantage and cultivate the image of a rakish troublemaker who plays by nobody's rules but his own, or you could push it out of your mind as hard as you can and laugh it off if it ever comes up.

nobody will care if you can drive or not if they already like you. would you turn down a girl for being in your position, if you were otherwise into the girl?

unfortunately, i suspect the chink in your armour is not lack of a license, but the fact that you and your five-year-girlfriend just broke up. which totally sucks. and that suckage will manifest in all sorts of ways, too. this is just one way in which your mind is allocating blame for your lost mojo.

Yeah, I have been feeling pretty off ever since the break up, but it's good to hear that a vehicle isn't too big a deal. As for the taxi comment - I'm fine getting around on my own as I've been doing it for about 5 years now, I was just more focused on trying to date without a reliable means of.... transportation. Good exercise though, walking everywhere.

Thanks for the reply. A last question though. Where should I try and go to meet girls in a new town? As I said, I'm used to going/hosting parties and fooling around with the girls there that I knew or somewhat knew. I'm going to a comedy thing tonight with a bunch of guys from work so should I try and flirt with girls there if there are any single looking ones?(somehow I doubt it, since you had to buy the tickets beforehand).

Well I meant if you are insecure about not having a car, you should use a taxi when you're on a date.

lol, just because you have to buy tickets beforehand doesn't mean suddenly single girls won't be there.

Have you considered taking a class, like a cooking class or dancing class? Or perhaps joining some sort of club that you are interested, such as a hiking club or book club? Those are some good ways to meet new women.

It really depends on the area you live. I live in a smaller town, and the people here without cars are usually the kind that also collect welfare or just losers, but in a larger city, it would be more accepted.

Do you have friends you can ride with?

And I honestly dont see the no car thing being an issue, unless youre trying to get a girl back to your place to bang. Most people know someone who has gotten a DWI and they know how it goes.
